Why San Diego Residents Choose Us for CertainTeed Service

We’ve spent years working on CertainTeed roofing and siding in San Diego’s coastal and canyon-front homes, so we don’t guess at what holds up. CertainTeed Landmark shingles behave differently in Point Loma than they do in Poway, and we plan accordingly. We’re an independent CertainTeed service provider, not a manufacturer affiliate, which means we call repairs honestly: when a roof is worth patching, we patch it; when it needs full replacement, we say so without upselling.
Isaac Pruett, our owner, grew up in Los Angeles and trained at LATTC before spending years on Bathroom Remodeling in San Diego and other projects across San Diego County. He keeps his original apprenticeship notes in his truck, not for reference but because throwing them out never felt right. That’s the kind of detail that matters when you’re trusting someone with your roof.
We stock CertainTeed OEM shingles, ridge caps, and siding locally, so we’re not waiting on a distributor when your roof is exposed. For hidden flashing and fasteners, we use marine-grade aftermarket parts that outperform the originals in salt air.

Common CertainTeed Construction Problems We Solve in San Diego
- Granule loss on Landmark shingles near the coast. Within a mile of the Pacific, salt mist and fog drip strip granules from west-facing slopes faster than inland. Homeowners in Ocean Beach and La Jolla see bald spots along eaves first, exposing fiberglass matting. We replace the affected courses and address the drainage or underlayment issue that let moisture linger.
- Presidential Shake cracking at ridge transitions. Canyon-rim homes in San Diego see temperature swings of 40°F between foggy mornings and clear afternoons. Those swings stress the ridge transitions on Presidential Shake, causing hairline cracks that expand with each cycle. We inspect the entire ridge line, not just the visible crack, because the problem rarely stays in one spot.
- Cedar Impressions warping on stucco-over-wood walls. San Diego’s ubiquitous stucco-over-wood framing hides rot from decades of rain intrusion. When Cedar Impressions panels pull from studs, the real issue is often soft, rotted wood behind the siding. We won’t install new panels over a compromised nail base; we’ll open the wall, replace the framing, and then re-side.
- Monogram siding fading on south-facing elevations. Clairemont and Allied Gardens homes with original 1950s Monogram siding often show uneven chalk and fade on south-facing walls after years of UV and occasional Santa Ana heat. Faded panels are more than cosmetic; they signal degraded UV inhibitors in the vinyl, which means future brittleness and cracking.
- Wood rot discovered during window-to-trim transitions. When homeowners replace old single-pane aluminum windows in mid-century San Diego homes, they often find hidden rot behind the trim from decades of fog drip. That rot affects whatever CertainTeed siding or trim goes back on, so we address the moisture source before installing new material.
CertainTeed Service in San Diego: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

San Diego’s Coastal Height Limit Overlay Zone restricts building heights in many beach neighborhoods, and that shapes how CertainTeed roofing has to be installed. Flat-to-low-slope CertainTeed roofing transitions and mid-roof siding changes must meet both fire and height codes, a constraint inland cities like Poway or El Cajon don’t face. Our replacements in La Jolla and Ocean Beach often require a 2:12 pitch conversion under 30 feet. That’s not a paperwork formality; it changes which CertainTeed products make sense, how the underlayment is laid, and where drainage has to go. If a roofer quotes you without mentioning the Coastal Height Limit, they haven’t done this work here.
Our crew spent two mornings on a 1958 stucco ranch on Mount Abernathy Avenue in Clairemont where the original Landmark shingles had bald spots along the west eave from decades of fog drip. We pulled the first two courses, replaced rotted plywood sheathing, and installed new CertainTeed Landmark in Weathered Wood with copper drip edge and stainless steel ring-shank nails. The homeowner then had us clad the chimney chase in Monogram siding because the old vinyl had chalked and cracked from sun and salt air.
CertainTeed Models & Products We Service in San Diego
We work on CertainTeed Landmark series asphalt shingles, Presidential Shake series, Cedar Impressions siding, and Monogram vinyl siding. For visible roof or wall faces, we source CertainTeed OEM shingles, siding, and ridge caps because color batch and granule blend matter in San Diego’s bright coastal sun. For hidden underlayment, flashing, and fasteners, we use marine-grade aftermarket parts rated for salt air and rain-driven moisture. When a roof shows blistering or granule loss on more than 35% of a slope, we recommend full replacement over spot repair; patching on sunny, salt-exposed decks shortens the new shingles’ life. Call (619) 673-9302 and Isaac will tell you what’s worth patching and what isn’t.

FAQs – CertainTeed Construction in San Diego
Salt mist and fog drip act like a slow abrasive on asphalt shingles, and west-facing slopes within a mile of the Pacific take the worst of it. Granules loosen first along eaves, where moisture lingers longest. The fix isn’t just replacing the bald shingles; it’s also correcting the drainage or ventilation that let moisture sit there in the first place. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you if your granule loss is still patchable or if it’s time for full replacement.
Not always. If blistering is isolated and the rest of the roof is sound, we can replace just the affected slope, matching the CertainTeed OEM shingle color and granule blend. But if more than a third of a slope shows blistering, patching is throwing money into a roof that’s already on borrowed time. We’ll show you photos and give you an honest recommendation either way.
Usually no. Most Clairemont stucco-over-wood walls from the 1950s and 60s have rot hiding behind the stucco, and installing Cedar Impressions over the old layer just locks moisture in and softens the nail base further. We open the wall, replace the rotted framing, and then install the siding properly. It costs more up front, but it’s the difference between siding that lasts 20 years and siding that pulls loose in five.
CertainTeed Monogram is vinyl, and vinyl doesn’t survive direct wildfire exposure. What Monogram does well is resist ember ignition and not fuel a fire the way wood siding does, but it can warp and melt under intense heat. For canyon-rim homes in San Diego, we often recommend non-combustible cladding or at minimum a defensible-space plan before relying on any vinyl product near wildland areas.
Hidden wood rot behind the window trim, caused by decades of fog drip and occasional rain intrusion. The original single-pane aluminum windows didn’t seal well at the sill, so moisture wicked into the framing. When we pull the old windows to install new trim, the wood underneath is often soft and must be replaced before any CertainTeed siding or trim goes back on. Call (619) 673-9302 for an inspection, and we’ll show you exactly what’s behind your trim before quoting the job.
