Cambria Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Cambria-compatible driveway and paver components throughout San Diego, with most paver driveway installations running $8,260 – $21,240 and concrete driveway work ranging from $5,310 – $14,160 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and access. We keep common paver sizes, edge restraints, joint sand, and base materials on our trucks, so a failed section can usually be addressed in one visit. Most San Diego homeowners discover the problem after winter rains: a section sinks, a paver cracks along the edge, or water pools where it never pooled before.
What makes Cambria pavers different from big-box pavers is the manufacturing tolerance. These are through-body color pavers, which means the pigment runs the full thickness of the unit instead of sitting in a surface layer. That matters in San Diego, where intense UV exposure and salt air near the coast will bleach a surface-colored paver in three to five years but barely touch a through-body unit.
Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s paver line covers three main formats: a 60mm pedestrian-rated paver for patios and walkways, an 80mm residential driveway paver, and a 100mm commercial-grade unit. The driveway units are the only ones we recommend for vehicle traffic in San Diego. A 60mm paver will hold up on a walkway but will crack under repeated vehicle loads, especially on San Diego’s expansive clay soils that swell and shrink with seasonal moisture.
If you’re trying to match an existing Cambria driveway, flip over a loose paver. The mold number and date code are stamped on the bottom, and that mold number is what determines which new units will match your old pattern. Colors drift slightly between production runs, so we always pull from the same dye lot when adding to an existing driveway. For homeowners who can’t read the stamp, we bring a Cambria color fan deck and match on site.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Cambria specifically, we recommend OEM units when you’re patching a visible section. Aftermarket pavers in the same nominal size can vary by an eighth of an inch in actual dimension, and over a 20-foot driveway that difference walks the joint lines visibly. For edge restraints and base material, quality aftermarket products like snap-edge aluminum or concrete haunching perform identically and cost less.

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Settling or depressions near the garage apron. This is usually base failure, not paver failure. San Diego’s clay soil expands when wet and contracts when dry, and if the base rock wasn’t compacted in lifts, voids form under the pavers and they sink into them.
- Edge pavers separating from the border. The edge restraint has failed or was never installed properly. Without a solid restraint, the outer pavers walk outward under vehicle weight and the whole field loosens.
- Hairline cracks running across multiple pavers. A single cracked paver is a defect. A crack line running through five or six in a row means the base has flexed, usually from a saturated subgrade after heavy rain or a leaking irrigation line underneath.
- White chalky residue on the surface. Efflorescence. It’s cosmetic, not structural, but it tells you water is moving through the paver and evaporating on the surface. In San Diego’s coastal zones, you’ll see this more often than inland because the air itself carries more moisture.
- Weeds or grass pushing up between joints. Joint sand has washed out or was never swept in properly. Once the joints are open, water gets under the pavers and accelerates every other problem on this list.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a partial Cambria driveway repair in San Diego, you’re looking at $12 – $28 per square foot for removal, base correction, and re-installation, with most repairs landing between $1,200 and $4,500 depending on how much base work is involved. Full paver driveway installation runs $8,260 – $21,240, and driveway replacement (tear-out plus new surface) sits at $5,900 – $16,520. Concrete driveway installation ranges $5,310 – $14,160 if you decide to switch materials entirely.
What drives the price is what’s underneath. If the base is intact and we’re just pulling and re-laying surface pavers, it’s a one-day job at the low end. If the base has failed, we’re excavating 8 – 12 inches, hauling off the old material, and rebuilding with compacted class II road base before a single paver goes down. That’s the difference between a $1,500 job and a $4,500 job.
We deliver a written price before any work starts, and it includes the pavers, base material, edge restraints, joint sand, labor, and haul-off. No verbal estimates that grow on the final bill. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation for 365 days from the completion date. If something shifts or fails in that window, we return and fix it at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Pull a weed from a joint and see if the sand below is dry and loose or wet and compacted. Run a garden hose across the driveway and watch where water pools. If a single paver is cracked, you can chisel it out and drop a replacement in without touching the base.
Where DIY goes wrong is when the base has failed. Prying up 200 square feet of pavers, hauling out 10 tons of saturated base rock, and re-compacting in proper lifts is not a weekend project, and getting the slope wrong sends water toward your foundation instead of away from it. San Diego’s clay soil punishes shortcuts. If you’re seeing multiple depressions or crack lines across the field, call us at (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you what we’re actually dealing with. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
One note on who shows up: Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Cambria. Every technician who arrives at your door is background-checked, identity-verified, wearing a clean uniform, and carrying a photo ID badge. You’ll get the technician’s name and photo before the visit so you know exactly who is walking up your driveway. That’s The Threshold Standard, and it applies to every job we take.
FAQs

A properly installed Cambria paver driveway lasts 25 – 40 years in San Diego with basic joint sand top-ups every few years. The pavers themselves rarely fail. What fails is the base beneath them or the edge restraint around them, both of which are repairable without replacing the whole driveway.
Yes. We lift the affected pavers, correct the base, and re-lay the same units. If the pavers themselves are intact, you’re paying for base work and labor, not new material. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll give you an exact number after seeing the site.
Most partial repairs are completed in one to two days. Full driveway replacements run three to five days depending on access and whether we’re hand-digging or bringing in equipment. We’ll give you a written timeline with your written price, before work begins.
We keep common Cambria driveway pavers, edge restraints, and joint sand stocked on our trucks for standard sizes and colors. Unusual molds or colors may require a factory order, which typically adds three to seven days in San Diego. Either way, we’ll tell you before you commit to anything.
If your Cambria driveway is settling, cracking, or just looking tired, call (619) 673-9302 for a free estimate. We’ll walk the site, figure out what’s actually going on underneath, and give you a written price before any work starts. No surprises, no pressure, just a straight answer.
