Moen Windows & Doors: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a Moen window or door that’s sticking, leaking, or has a broken hardware component, we stock the parts and can typically install them for $470 to $2,950 depending on the component and scope. Most Moen window and door hardware replacements in San Diego are completed the same day once the right part is identified. Homeowners usually find us after a crank handle snaps off in their hand, a sliding door starts grinding, or a window won’t lock and the room won’t hold temperature.
Moen is better known for faucets, but their window and door hardware lines – casement operators, sliding door rollers, locking mechanisms, and weatherstripping systems – show up in a lot of San Diego homes built in the last twenty years. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Moen, but we work with their hardware daily and keep the common failure parts on our trucks.
Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen’s window and door hardware spans a few distinct lines, and the compatibility details matter more than most homeowners expect. The Moen Vandal-Resistant, Heavy-Duty, and Light Commercial series use different roller diameters, track profiles, and lock strike spacing – a roller from one series will not seat correctly in another. Before you order anything, check the edge of the door or the inside of the window frame for a laser-etched code, usually starting with “M” followed by six to eight digits.
If that label is worn off, measure the roller wheel diameter with a caliper – Moen sliding door rollers are most commonly 1-1/4 inch or 1-1/2 inch, and a sixteenth of an inch is the difference between a door that glides and one that binds. We stock genuine Moen OEM parts for all current lines plus quality aftermarket equivalents for discontinued series where Moen no longer manufactures the original. In coastal San Diego neighborhoods like Point Loma and Coronado, salt air accelerates failure on zinc-plated aftermarket parts, so we lean toward stainless hardware there even when it costs a little more.

Signs Your Moen Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The door drags or you have to lift it to close it. This is almost always a worn bottom roller. By the time you feel drag, the roller has usually flattened on one side and is chewing into the track. Every month you ignore it, the track gets more expensive to fix.
- The lock won’t turn or the latch won’t catch. Misalignment from a sagging door panel puts the strike plate and latch out of line. Forcing the lock bends the internal mechanism, turning a $100 hardware fix into a full lock replacement.
- A casement window crank spins freely or grinds. The operator gear inside the crank is stripped. In San Diego’s dry inland heat, the factory grease inside Moen operators breaks down faster than in cooler climates, and the nylon gear wears against the metal worm drive until it gives up.
- You can feel air moving around a closed window or door. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. It’s the cheapest part to replace and the one most owners leave too long, which drives up cooling costs through every inland summer.
- Condensation or fog appears between double panes. The insulated glass seal has failed. This isn’t a hardware fix – it’s a glass unit replacement. On Moen casement windows, the sash typically needs to come out of the frame to do it right.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Moen sliding door roller replacement in San Diego, expect $470 to $825 installed including parts and labor. A casement window operator replacement runs $470 to $710. Full lock and handle set replacement lands between $710 and $1,180 depending on whether it’s a single point or multi-point system. If the track itself is damaged from a worn roller, or a full window sash replacement is needed, you’re looking at $2,125 to $2,950 or more if it escalates into a full window replacement.
The range is driven by three things: which part failed, whether the model is current or discontinued, and how much damage the failure caused before you caught it. We deliver a written price before any work starts – not a verbal estimate that grows on the final invoice. That price includes the part, the labor, cleanup, and a written guarantee covering what was replaced. If the repair fails within 365 days of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
For windows and doors, the honest split is this: you can clean and lubricate tracks, replace weatherstripping, and tighten visible fasteners without risk. The moment you need to remove a sliding door panel, extract a casement sash, or disassemble a multi-point lock, you’re working with weight, spring tension is rare but glass breakage is common, and a dropped panel doesn’t just damage the door – it can hurt whoever is holding it.
A sliding glass door panel can weigh over 150 pounds. A casement window sash that comes out wrong bends the hinge hardware. We’ve followed enough botched DIY disassemblies to know the repair bill after the attempt is always higher than the original fix would have been. Our installers show up with name and photo confirmed before they reach your door, in clean uniform, with a photo ID badge at the threshold. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll get you sorted.
FAQs

Rollers and weatherstripping typically last 7 to 12 years in San Diego’s climate, but homes within two miles of the coast often see failures at the 4 to 7 year mark because of salt air. Casement operators last 10 to 15 years in most locations. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you what your specific part should realistically cost.
Sometimes yes – a roller with a clogged bearing can sometimes be cleaned, and a lock that just needs realignment doesn’t need new hardware. We’ll tell you honestly which camp you’re in before we ever quote a replacement. Estimates are free; call (619) 673-9302.
Most standard Moen hardware replacements – rollers, crank operators, locks, weatherstripping – take under two hours. Track replacement or full sash work runs half a day. We’ll give you the expected time when we deliver your written price.
Our trucks carry common Moen rollers in both sizes, casement operators, strike plates, and weatherstripping profiles. Discontinued-series hardware may require a one to three day order. We also stock complementary lines from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for larger remodel scope. Call (619) 673-9302 with your part number and we’ll tell you immediately if it’s on the shelf.
If your Moen window or door is fighting you, don’t wait until the track is grooved or the sash is warped.
