Blanco Home Additions & ADU: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you own a Blanco kitchen or bath fixture and you’re planning a home addition or ADU in San Diego, the question isn’t really about the Blanco part itself, it’s about how that fixture integrates into the new build or remodel. A Blanco sink or faucet installed during a home addition or ADU construction in San Diego typically runs between $53,100 and $153,400 for the full project, with the Blanco fixtures themselves usually accounting for $400 to $2,500 of that total depending on the model. Most homeowners don’t discover their Blanco fixture is incompatible or failing until the addition is already framed and the plumbing rough-in begins. That’s the moment a cheap aftermarket flange or the wrong drain assembly gets discovered, and it’s also the moment you’ll wish someone had matched the Blanco part to the Blanco sink before the drywall went up.
We’re not a Blanco dealer. Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent general contractor serving San Diego County, and we install Blanco-compatible fixtures during the additions and ADUs we build. What we’ve learned from doing this work across San Diego neighborhoods from Clairemont to Chula Vista is that the Blanco part itself rarely fails. What fails is the installation method, the drain assembly, or the mounting hardware that someone substituted to save $60.
Isaac Pruett has been in enough San Diego kitchens to say this plainly: tell me what’s broken, and I’ll tell you what it takes. If your Blanco sink is pulling away from the counter during a new addition, that’s a templating problem. If the drain leaks, that’s a gasket or strainer problem. Most of these are $150 to $450 fixes, not a reason to tear out the whole installation.
Which Blanco Models This Applies To

Blanco makes three broad sink lines that show up in San Diego additions and ADUs: the Silgranit composite sinks (the matte gray and black ones you see in half the remodeled kitchens in North Park and South Park), the stainless steel Performa and Precision series, and the ceramic Ikon and Eden lines. The faucets run the same way: the Blanco Culina and Linus semi-pro faucets are the most common in ADU kitchens in San Diego, and the older Blanco Dacor-era models still show up in homes built before 2010.
The compatibility gotcha most people hit is this: Blanco Silgranit sinks use a specific drain opening in the 3.5-inch range, but the strainer baskets are not universal. A standard 3.5-inch strainer from a big-box store will fit the hole and still leak because the Blanco sink’s underside has a specific taper. The OEM strainer (Blanco part 441 and 442 depending on color) costs $40 to $80. The aftermarket ones that say “fits Blanco” cost $19 and leak within a year. We’ve seen it enough in San Diego rental ADUs that we now specify the OEM strainer on every Silgranit install we do.
For faucets, the Blanco ceramic disc cartridges in the Culina line are covered by a limited lifetime warranty, but only if you registered the faucet and only if the cartridge was installed without plumber’s tape on the threads. That’s another one of those details that voids a warranty before you ever turned the water on. The cartridge itself is a 35mm Euro-style disc, which is not the same as the 40mm cartridges in the older Blanco Magnum models.
If you’re matching a Blanco fixture to an existing addition or ADU project in San Diego, look under the sink for the etched model number. Silgranit sinks have it stamped in the back-left corner, not on a sticker. Faucets have it on a tag on the supply line, not on the faucet body. If you can’t find it, a photo of the sink bowl profile and the drain from underneath is enough for us to identify the correct part before we ever show up.

Signs Your Blanco Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Water pooling around the drain flange. This is almost always the aftermarket strainer basket I mentioned above. The rubber gasket compresses unevenly against the Silgranit taper, and water wicks between the sink and the flange. The fix is the OEM strainer, re-seated with silicone, not plumber’s putty on a composite sink.
- The sink drops or shifts slightly under load. Blanco Silgranit sinks have a specific mounting requirement: the clips provided by Blanco, spaced no more than 12 inches apart. If an installer only used four clips on a 33-inch sink, the sink will flex, and eventually the seal between the counter and sink will fail. We see this in ADU installations where someone rushed the counter fabrication.
- Discoloration or white haze on a Silgranit sink. This isn’t a part failure, it’s hard water mineral buildup from San Diego’s water. The fix is a once-a-month wipedown with a 50/50 white vinegar and water solution, then rinse. The white haze is calcium, not a Blanco defect.
- Low water pressure from a Blanco faucet. The aerator gets clogged with sediment from older galvanized supply lines, which are still common in San Diego homes built before 1970. The aerator unscrews by hand, but if the pressure stays low after cleaning, you’re looking at a cartridge issue, not an aerator issue.
- Grinding or stiffness in the faucet handle. The ceramic disc cartridge is worn or scored. This is common in rental ADUs where multiple tenants have used the faucet hard. The cartridge is replaceable, but only if you have the exact model number, because Blanco changed cartridge sizes across model years.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Blanco-specific repair or replacement during a San Diego home addition or ADU project, the cost is usually separate from the construction budget unless it’s discovered during the rough-in or finish phase. Here’s what you’re looking at in San Diego:
Blanco Fixture Work: San Diego Installed Prices
- Blanco Silgranit sink replacement: $400 to $1,200 installed, including the sink, strainer, clips, and counter re-sealing. The sink itself runs $350 to $750 depending on model and color.
- Blanco strainer basket replacement (OEM): $40 to $95 for the part, $80 to $150 installed. The part alone is available direct from Blanco.
- Blanco faucet cartridge replacement: $35 to $85 for the cartridge, $150 to $350 installed depending on whether the faucet needs to be pulled from the counter.
- Blanco faucet full replacement: $200 to $600 for the faucet, $250 to $550 for labor including supply line replacement and testing.
- Full Blanco ADU kitchen package (sink, faucet, strainer, installation during ADU build): $800 to $2,500 added to the ADU construction total, which runs $106,200 to $259,600 in San Diego.
Those Blanco-specific numbers sit inside the larger home addition cost, which runs $53,100 to $153,400 in San Diego depending on scope, square footage, permitting, and whether it’s attached or detached. The Blanco fixture is a small line item on the budget, but getting it wrong means water damage, a call-back, and a countertop that has to come out.
Every Blanco fixture we install during an addition or ADU project carries our written guarantee: 365 days from the completion date. If the install fails, we return and fix it at no charge, no dispute process. The Blanco manufacturer warranty on the fixture itself is separate and we register it with Blanco on your behalf, with the paperwork handed to you at final walkthrough.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a lot on a Blanco sink you can handle yourself. The aerator, the strainer basket swap, the vinegar descaling: those are all homeowner tasks that take ten minutes and a crescent wrench. If the sink is already installed and you’re just swapping the drain strainer, that’s a $45 part and fifteen minutes under the sink. No plumber needed.
What you should not do is pull a Blanco Silgranit sink out of a counter it’s been installed in. Silgranit is a granite composite, and it is heavy, and if you chip the edge while prying it loose, the chip is permanent. The sink can’t be patched or refinished. The other place DIY goes wrong is mounting clips: too few clips means flex and leaks, over-tightened clips can actually crack the Silgranit rim. That’s a $600 mistake in about four seconds.
If the Blanco fixture is going into a new addition or ADU, call us before the counter fabricator templates. A template that doesn’t account for the Blanco mounting requirement means the counter comes back and doesn’t fit. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll talk you through the measurement before the saw ever starts.
FAQs

A properly installed Blanco Silgranit sink should last 20 to 30 years in San Diego’s climate. The composite material is unaffected by hard water, coastal salt air, or UV exposure, which are the three things that destroy cheaper sinks in this region. What fails first is the strainer basket, not the sink itself, and that’s a $45 part swap.
Minor scratches on Silgranit can be buffed out with a non-abrasive pad and mineral oil, but chips, cracks, and deep gouges cannot be repaired. The composite color goes all the way through the material, so a small scratch will disappear with light buffing. A chip through the rim is a replacement, and we’d rather tell you that honestly before you spend $80 on a repair kit that won’t work. Call (619) 673-9302 if you’re not sure which category your sink falls into.
A straightforward Blanco sink or faucet replacement takes two to three hours from start to finish, including removing the old fixture, cleaning the counter, setting the new one, and testing for leaks. If the sink is being installed as part of a larger addition or ADU, it’s sequenced into the plumbing rough-in and finish schedule so it doesn’t add any extra days to the build.
Yes, we keep OEM Blanco strainer baskets, drain gaskets, and mounting clips on our trucks because these are the parts we replace most often in San Diego additions and ADUs. We also stock the common 35mm cartridges for Culina and Linus faucets. If you need an uncommon part, we order directly from Blanco and it arrives in three to five business days. Alongside Blanco, we work with KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone surfaces, so if the Blanco issue is part of a larger kitchen or bath scope, we can handle the whole job.
If your Blanco fixture is giving you trouble in a San Diego home addition or ADU, the fastest way to a fixed price and a straight answer is to call us at (619) 673-9302. We’ll help you identify the part, give you a written price before any work starts, and schedule the visit around your project timeline. No upsells, no surprise invoices, just the part that fits and the install done right.
