Delta Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Delta-compatible bathroom remodeling components across San Diego, with a full bathroom remodel typically running $10,620 to $33,040 depending on scope, materials, and what’s behind your existing walls. Most San Diego homeowners find us after a Delta valve cartridge starts dripping, a shower trim kit shows its age, or a tub spout diverter stops sending water to the showerhead. You’ll usually notice the failure as a persistent drip, uneven water temperature, or water flowing from the tub spout while the shower is running. Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Delta Faucet Company, but we work with their components every week, from Mission Valley condos to Clairemont ranch houses.
Which Delta Models This Applies To
Delta’s bathroom lineup splits into a few families that matter for parts matching. The Monitor series (models like the 13/14 series) uses a pressure-balancing cartridge that Delta has updated several times over the years. The MultiChoice rough-in valve is the universal body behind most Delta shower trim kits sold in the last 15 years or so, and it accepts cartridges from basic pressure-balance all the way up to thermostatic control. Older homes in neighborhoods like Normal Heights or North Park often still have three-handle Delta tub/shower valves, which take completely different stems and seats. The fastest way to identify what you have is to remove the trim plate and look for the model number stamped on the valve body, usually starting with R10000 for MultiChoice valves. If you’d rather not pull anything apart, we can identify it during an estimate visit. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Delta cartridges and internal valve parts, we use factory Delta components almost without exception. The tolerances on pressure-balancing spools and thermostatic elements are tight enough that a generic cartridge often drips within a year or delivers temperature swings. For exterior trim pieces like escutcheon plates and showerheads, quality aftermarket brands like Danco can be a reasonable savings, and we’ll tell you honestly if that’s the right call for your situation.

Signs Your Delta Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Drip from the tub spout or showerhead after the water is off. This usually means the cartridge’s rubber seats or the pressure-balancing spool have worn, allowing water to sneak past the valve. If it’s a slow consistent drip, the cartridge is the likely culprit and replacement is straightforward.
- Sudden temperature swings when someone uses a toilet or sink elsewhere in the house. The pressure-balancing element inside the cartridge is designed to compensate for pressure drops, and when it stiffens with mineral buildup or age, you get that cold-water blast or scalding surge. San Diego’s hard water accelerates this in areas like El Cajon and La Mesa.
- Handle becomes stiff or hard to rotate, or won’t stay where you set it. Mineral deposits from hard water build up around the cartridge body and the rotational stop mechanism. You can sometimes free it temporarily, but the fix that lasts is a cartridge swap and a valve body cleaning.
- Water comes out of the tub spout while the shower is running, or the diverter won’t fully switch. If you have a tub spout with a pull-up diverter, the gate inside often corrodes or loses its seal. Replacements are inexpensive, and matching the spout connection type (slip-fit versus threaded) is the key detail.
- Reduced water pressure at the showerhead but fine flow at the tub spout. The flow restrictor inside the Delta showerhead may be clogged with sediment, or the showerhead’s internal passages have mineral crust. A new Delta showerhead or a thorough soak in vinegar often restores pressure.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed bathroom remodeling in San Diego runs $10,620 to $33,040 for a full project, which covers demolition, plumbing fixture replacement with Delta-compatible components, waterproofing, tile or surround installation, and finish trim. Smaller scoped work falls on the lower end: a tub-to-shower conversion typically lands between $4,130 and $11,800, while a walk-in shower installation runs $5,310 to $14,160. What drives the spread is what we find after demo: older San Diego homes in areas like Kensington or Talmadge frequently have cast-iron drain lines or non-standard valve rough-ins that need correction before the new Delta valve goes in. You get a written line-item price before any work starts, never a verbal estimate that grows later. Every bathroom project carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, meaning if anything isn’t right within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s my straight answer. A Delta showerhead swap, a tub spout replacement, or a trim kit refresh are things a careful homeowner can do with basic tools and an afternoon. The cartridge replacement is a different story, especially on thermostatic models where the removal can require a specific tool and the risk of cross-threading the new cartridge into the valve body is real. High-tension components aren’t the issue with Delta bathroom fixtures, but pressurized water inside the wall always is: a valve body installed or opened incorrectly can leak inside the wall cavity for weeks before you see any signs, by which point you’re dealing with framing damage and mold. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes. If the job involves opening the wall, moving a valve, or waterproofing a shower pan, leave it to a licensed professional with experience in San Diego’s older housing stock. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll give you an honest assessment over the phone before anyone steps inside your home.
FAQs

Most Delta pressure-balancing cartridges last 8 to 15 years in San Diego before the rubber seats stiffen and begin to drip, though hard water in East County can cut that to 6 to 8 years without a water softener. Thermostatic cartridges often hold up longer because they have fewer rubber components, but mineral deposits eventually affect them too.
In most cases, no. Delta cartridges are sealed assemblies, and the internal rubber seats and springs aren’t sold separately as service parts. Trying to lubricate or modify a worn cartridge almost never works for more than a few weeks. We stock fresh Delta cartridges and swap them same-day on most visits.
A standard tub or shower replacement with new Delta valve trim, surround, and waterproofing takes 3 to 5 working days in San Diego. Full bathroom remodels with tile work, new vanities, and fixture relocation typically run 1 to 2 weeks. You’ll get a written schedule with your written price before we start.
We keep the most common Delta cartridges, tub spouts, showerheads, and trim kits on our trucks and in our warehouse, and we also work with several San Diego plumbing supply houses for same-day pickup on less common parts. We also stock components from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the cabinetry and surface side of your remodel. Call (619) 673-9302 with a photo of your existing fixture and we can usually confirm availability before the estimate visit.
