Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you’ve got a Mr-Glass driveway or paver system and something’s failed, here’s what you need to know: we stock Mr-Glass-compatible driveway and paver parts in San Diego, and a typical replacement runs $8,260 to $21,240 installed depending on square footage and what failed. Most San Diego owners discover the problem after a heavy rain season, when a cracked paver shifts, a sand joint washes out, or the edge restraint lets go along the driveway border.
The frustrating part with Mr-Glass systems is that they’re not a single product line. They’re a family of glass-fiber reinforced pavers and driveway grids, and the part that fails is rarely the paver itself. It’s what’s underneath or around it. That’s what we’re going to walk through here, so you know exactly what you’re looking at before anyone quotes you a number.
One thing up front: Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Mr-Glass. We stock their compatible parts because San Diego homeowners keep asking for them, and we’d rather give you a straight answer than send you chasing a discontinued distributor.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass produced three driveway and paver series that show up in San Diego: the Original Series (flat-top pavers with a 3.1″ thickness, found mostly in pre-2015 installs), the HD Series (4.2″ thick, rated for driveway traffic, marked with an “HD” stamp on the bottom edge), and the Permeable Series (wider spacing lugs, designed for water infiltration). If you flip over a loose paver, the series code is molded into the underside, usually on a corner tab.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most San Diego owners hit: Original Series pavers are no longer made. Mr-Glass discontinued that line, so if you need a color match, you’re either buying reclaimed stock or replacing the section. HD Series parts are still available, but the color lots shift. A paver bought in 2021 won’t match a 2024 lot exactly, which matters on a visible driveway approach. We tell homeowners this before they spend money, because nobody wants a patchwork driveway.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for grid systems and edge restraints, quality aftermarket equivalents (Techniseal, Alliance Gator, Sek SureBond) hold up fine in San Diego’s climate. For the pavers themselves, OEM is the only way to get a true color and texture match. We stock OEM HD Series pavers, joint sand, and edge restraints on our truck. Original Series we source on request or recommend full-section replacement.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sinking or rocking pavers near the driveway edge. This means the base layer has eroded or compacted unevenly. In San Diego, this usually follows a rain year when water crept under the edge restraint and washed fines out of the setting bed.
- Widening gaps filled with weeds or ant mounds. Joint sand has failed or was never properly sealed. Once ants colonize a joint, they excavate the bedding sand beneath the pavers, and the whole section starts shifting.
- A paver cracked clean across the middle. Mr-Glass pavers are fiber-reinforced, so a clean crack usually means the paver was laid over a void, not that the paver was defective. The crack is the symptom; the void underneath is the cause.
- Chalky white residue or surface flaking. This is efflorescence from trapped moisture, common near coastal San Diego zones like Point Loma and Ocean Beach. It’s cosmetic unless the surface is actually delaminating, which happens when pavers are sealed with the wrong sealer.
- Edge restraint visible or bent. The plastic or aluminum border that holds the outside pavers in place has failed. Once the edge goes, the rest of the field follows within two seasons.

For San Diego, here’s what installed Mr-Glass driveway and paver work runs:
| Scope of Work | Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Partial paver replacement (up to 100 sq ft, matching OEM where possible) | $1,180 – $3,540 |
| Full paver driveway installation (new base, pavers, joints, edge restraint) | $8,260 – $21,240 |
| Paver patio installation (new base, pavers, joints) | $4,130 – $12,980 |
| Edge restraint repair and re-compaction | $590 – $1,650 |
What drives the range: square footage, whether the existing base is salvageable or needs re-grading, access (a narrow side yard in North Park adds labor), and whether we’re matching an Original Series paver that’s no longer made. Every estimate we give is a written line-item price before any work starts. No verbal number that grows on the final bill. Our paver and driveway work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you.
We also handle driveway replacement and sealing, so if the Mr-Glass system is beyond saving, we’ll tell you honestly and give you numbers for a new paver driveway or a concrete driveway in San Diego.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver work is one of the few trades where a careful homeowner can actually fix small problems. Replacing a cracked paver in the middle of the field, for example, takes a pry bar, some sand, and patience. Re-setting an edge restraint is similar. If the pavers around the problem are still level and tight, you’re dealing with an isolated failure and a DIY fix will hold.
Here’s where DIY goes wrong: when the base has failed. If you’re seeing sinking, widespread rocking, or pavers that shift when you walk on them, pulling and resetting individual pavers is a Band-Aid. The base underneath needs re-compaction and likely re-grading. That’s heavy labor, it needs the right compactor, and if you get the slope wrong, you’ll direct water toward your foundation instead of away from it. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes. Call us at (619) 673-9302 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether you’re fixing a paver or replacing a base.
FAQs

A properly installed Mr-Glass driveway in San Diego lasts 20 to 30 years, but the base underneath typically needs attention at the 10 to 15 year mark. Coastal salt air accelerates surface wear on the paver’s top layer, which is why sealing every 3 to 4 years matters more in Point Loma than it does in Rancho Bernardo.
A hairline surface crack can be stabilized with a color-matched paver repair compound, but a full-depth crack is a replacement job. Mr-Glass pavers are fiber-reinforced, so when they crack through the body, the structural integrity is gone and patching will fail within a year. Call (619) 673-9302 if you’re unsure which category yours is in.
A single-paver replacement takes under an hour. A partial section with base re-compaction is typically a one-day job. A full driveway replacement in San Diego runs 3 to 5 days depending on access and square footage.
We stock OEM Mr-Glass HD Series pavers, joint sand, and edge restraints on our trucks. Original Series pavers are discontinued, so we either source reclaimed stock or recommend replacing the section with the closest available match. We’ll tell you which path makes sense before you spend a dollar.
