Jerith Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Jerith-compatible bathroom remodeling parts across San Diego County, with full bathroom remodels running $10,620 to $33,040 depending on scope, finishes, and what’s behind the walls. Most Jerith-specific component work, whether it’s a failing shower valve, a worn tub surround, or a vanity that’s seen better decades, can be quoted and scheduled within the same week. What we hear most often from homeowners is that a Jerith fixture started leaking slowly, a drawer front cracked, or the shower surround pulled away from the wall, and they didn’t notice until water had already worked its way into places it shouldn’t be.
Here’s the thing about Jerith bathroom products: the components were built to look good in tract homes and mid-range remodels of the 1990s and early 2000s, and in San Diego’s coastal humidity, the plastic mounting brackets and internal gaskets tend to be the first things to go. We’ve pulled apart enough of them in Clairemont, Mission Valley, and Rancho Bernardo to know exactly which parts fail first and which ones are worth replacing rather than swapping out the whole unit. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith manufactured bathroom products under several lines that show up regularly in San Diego homes built between roughly 1985 and 2010. The most common we see are the Jerith Builder Series vanities (flat-panel oak and maple doors, standard 31-inch and 37-inch heights), the Jerith Garden Tub surrounds (three-piece fiberglass and acrylic shells), and the Jerith molded shower bases in 32×32, 36×36, and 48×36 dimensions. If you’re not sure which line you have, check the inside of the vanity cabinet door or the underside of the tub edge for a small stamped label with a model number starting with “J-” or “JT-“.
The compatibility gotcha with Jerith is that their vanity drawers used two different slide systems depending on the year: a 3/4-extension epoxy-coated slide up through about 2002, and a full-extension undermount slide after that. The mounting holes don’t line up between the two, so grabbing any drawer slide off a shelf creates more problems than it solves. For shower surrounds and tubs, Jerith’s color codes matter more than the model number because the fiberglass gelcoat fades unevenly in California sun exposure, and a mismatched patch panel will be visible from across the bathroom. We keep OEM Jerith drawer slides, hinges, and tub surround corner trim pieces stocked on our trucks in San Diego, and we source quality aftermarket equivalents only where the original part was weak to begin with. Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Jerith.

Signs Your Jerith Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft spots at the tub surround seam. The Jerith three-piece surrounds seal at two vertical seams, and the original silicone breaks down after eight to twelve years. Water wicks behind the surround and rots the drywall, which is why a small crack at the seam is never actually a small problem.
- Drawer fronts that sag or won’t close square. Jerith’s builder-grade drawer boxes were stapled at the corners, and once the staple lets go, the box rack grows. You’ll feel the drawer drag on one side before it fails completely.
- Shower base flexing underfoot. Original Jerith shower bases were set directly on the subfloor without a mortar bed in many San Diego track builds. The fiberglass fatigues, micro-fractures form, and water finds the subfloor through hairline cracks you can’t see from standing height.
- Vanity side panels swelling at the bottom. Jerith used particleboard cores with a vinyl-wrapped finish, and any water that reaches the base wicks upward. The swelling is the tell, and by the time you see it, the panel is usually beyond saving.
- Hinges that strip out and doors that lean. Original Jerith cabinet hinges thread into small-diameter screws in particleboard. Once they strip, the fix is not a bigger screw but a repaired or replaced door stile.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Jerith-specific bathroom work in San Diego, the installed price depends on how much of the original build you’re keeping. Replacing a Jerith tub surround with a new three-piece acrylic or a tile surround runs $5,310 to $14,160 as part of a broader bathroom remodel, while a full Jerith-era bathroom gut and redo (vanity, surround, shower base, fixtures, flooring) lands between $10,620 and $33,040. The spread is driven by finish choices, whether plumbing needs to move, and what we find when the old surround comes off.
Every quote you get from us includes the parts, the labor, the haul-away of the old Jerith components, and the written warranty on our installation. We deliver a written price before any work starts, and it does not change unless you change the scope. If a Jerith vanity only needs drawer slides and hinges rebuilt, that’s a smaller service call, usually under $1,000, and we’ll tell you honestly whether rebuilding is worth it or whether you’re better off replacing the vanity while we’re already in the bathroom.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s where we’ll be straight with you. Replacing Jerith drawer slides, swapping a vanity hinge, or recaulking the surround seam are jobs a careful homeowner can handle, and we’ll tell you exactly which parts to buy and what to avoid. The danger zone is anything involving the shower surround or tub removal. Jerith surrounds were glued to the studs with construction adhesive, and pulling them without cutting the drywall properly damages the framing, the plumbing rough-in, and occasionally the adjacent wall surface. You’re also working with sharp fiberglass edges once the surround starts coming apart.
Anything involving water lines, drain lines, or the shower valve is a licensed plumber’s job in San Diego, full stop. We’ve been called to fix more DIY surround removals than we can count, and the repair bill is always higher than the original job would have been. If you’re not sure which category your project falls into, call (619) 673-9302 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight answer over the phone.
FAQs

Expect 12 to 18 years from Jerith tub surrounds and shower bases in San Diego’s climate before the gelcoat micro-cracks or the seams fail, while vanities and cabinet hardware typically last 15 to 20 years before drawer boxes or hinges give out. Coastal moisture in neighborhoods like Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach accelerates the particleboard failures by several years compared to inland homes in Poway or Santee. Call (619) 673-9302 if your Jerith components are in that age range and you’re seeing signs of wear.
Surface cracks and small chips can be patched and refinished, but once the seams have separated or the surround has pulled away from the studs, repair is throwing good money after bad because the water damage is already behind the unit. We’ll inspect the surround and give you a honest repair-or-replace recommendation before any work is quoted. Estimates are free.
Most Jerith tub and surround removals with a new walk-in shower installation take us four to six working days in San Diego, including demo, plumbing adjustments, waterproofing, tile or surround install, and finish trim. The written price you get before we start includes a completed-by date so you know exactly when the bathroom is usable again.
We keep Jerith drawer slides, hinges, tub surround corner trim, and common shower base drain assemblies stocked on our service trucks, so many Jerith repairs in San Diego are completed on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, we’ll tell you the exact arrival date before you commit to anything. Call (619) 673-9302 to confirm we have what you need.
