Cover Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If your kitchen renovation has stalled, failed, or produced work that isn’t holding up, we can tell you exactly what it takes to make it right. A full kitchen remodel in San Diego typically runs $16,520 – $53,100 installed, depending on cabinet grade, countertop material, and how much the layout changes. Most homeowners call us after living with a half-finished kitchen, a cabinet door that won’t close, or a countertop seam that keeps catching crumbs and water.
The usual discovery moment is ugly: a drawer face pops off in your hand, a soft-close hinge stops closing at all, or you notice the island has shifted enough that the stone overhang doesn’t line up anymore. We’ve seen all of it in kitchens across San Diego County, from Clairemont to Chula Vista, and the fix usually comes down to correcting what was installed wrong and replacing what can’t be saved.
Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent contractor, not a Cover dealer or affiliate. We install and service kitchens built with Cover-style cabinetry and fixtures, and we stock the common failure parts on our trucks, which means we can often correct hardware, hinge, and drawer issues in a single visit. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover kitchen systems, like most modern remodel lines, are built around modular cabinet boxes with interchangeable doors, drawers, and hardware. The compatibility issue we run into most often in San Diego is that the original cabinet boxes might be fine while the doors and drawer fronts came from a discontinued batch. If you’re trying to match a door, you need the exact thermofoil or paint code, and in coastal neighborhoods like Point Loma or Ocean Beach, the salt air has usually faded the original enough that a brand-new door will look visibly different from the ones around it.
Before you order anything, check the inside of the cabinet door or the edge of the drawer box for a printed label. It will have a series code and sometimes a date stamp. If the label is gone, measure the door precisely: height, width, and thickness, because a 3/4-inch door won’t swap with a 5/8-inch one no matter how close the style looks. Aftermarket hardware is generally fine for hinges and drawer slides, but for anything cosmetic, OEM from Cover or an exact-spec match is the safer call.
We also work with cabinet lines like KraftMaid and surface brands like Cambria and Silestone, so if your Cover kitchen has mixed finishes, we can source compatible materials without making you juggle three different suppliers.

Signs Your Cover Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer fronts sit crooked or rub the cabinet frame. The cause is usually a worn or bent drawer slide, or a slide that was installed level on one side and not the other. Over time, the misalignment chews through the roller bearings.
- Soft-close hinges stop catching and doors slam. Those hinges have a small hydraulic piston inside. In San Diego’s hard-water homes, mineral buildup can seize the piston, and once it’s seized, no amount of adjusting the screw brings the cushion back.
- Countertop seams open up or catch a fingernail. Quartz and solid-surface counters expand and contract with temperature shifts. Homes in East County with big window exposure see this more often. A cracked seam usually means the adhesive bond failed, not that the stone itself broke.
- The island has pulled away from the floor or the wall. This happens when the island was set on flooring that flexes, or when the base wasn’t anchored to the slab. We’ve opened up islands in San Diego kitchens and found nothing but construction adhesive holding a 300-pound slab in place.
- Cabinet doors won’t stay aligned no matter how much you adjust them. The hinge mounting plates have likely stripped their screw holes. Re-tightening won’t fix it. The fix is a threaded insert or a new mounting plate.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full kitchen remodel in San Diego runs $16,520 – $53,100 installed. The wide spread comes down to scope: a small galley kitchen with stock cabinets and a laminate top sits at the low end, while a large kitchen with custom cabinetry, a quartz island, and moved plumbing or electrical reaches the high end.
Here’s how the common pieces price out, installed, in San Diego:
- Cabinet installation: $4,720 – $15,340
- Countertop installation: $2,360 – $7,670
- Backsplash installation: $945 – $2,950
- Kitchen island installation: $3,540 – $11,800

DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a drawer slide or adjusting a hinge tension screw is within reach for a handy homeowner with a screwdriver and some patience. Replacing a countertop, moving a gas line, or re-anchoring a kitchen island is not. Those jobs involve heavy material, electrical or gas connections, and enough weight that a small mistake turns into a hospital visit or a cracked slab. We don’t want you to find that out the hard way.
If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (619) 673-9302 and describe what’s happening. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a five-minute fix or a job for a crew, and we won’t charge you for the honesty. A live person answers, any hour, any day.
FAQs

Well-installed cabinets and quartz countertops should last 20 to 30 years in a San Diego climate, though coastal humidity can age cabinet finishes faster in beachside neighborhoods. The hardware typically fails first: hinges, slides, and soft-close mechanisms usually need replacement at the 10 to 15 year mark. Call (619) 673-9302 for an exact assessment of yours.
Usually yes if the cabinet boxes are sound and the problem is hardware, door alignment, or a failed seam. We’ll always quote the repair first if it’s the honest call. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you straight what it needs.
A hardware repair or single-door replacement is often done in one visit. A full kitchen remodel in San Diego typically takes 4 to 8 weeks depending on permitting, custom material lead times, and whether plumbing or electrical moves. We’ll give you a written timeline with the written price.
We stock common hinge, slide, and drawer hardware for Cover-style cabinetry, plus we can source OEM doors and fronts through our supplier network. If it’s a stock item, we often fix it the same visit. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll confirm before we roll out.
