Mighty Buildings Windows & Doors: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mighty Buildings-compatible windows and doors across San Diego, with most replacements running $5,310 – $17,700 installed depending on size, glazing, and whether the frame needs rework. Most owners discover a failure the hard way: a door that suddenly drags against the threshold, a window that fogs between the panes, or a latch that no longer seats into the strike plate. On a Mighty Buildings home, panels were factory-fitted to engineered openings, so when one goes bad, the fix needs to account for that precision, not just “close enough.”
One thing worth knowing up front: Mason Remodeling Co San Diego is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Mighty Buildings. But we’ve worked on enough of these units in San Diego County to know their tolerances, their quirks, and where the factory weather sealing tends to fail first in coastal air.
If you’ve got a Mighty Buildings window or door that won’t close, won’t seal, or won’t lock, call us at (619) 673-9302. We’ll match the part, give you a written price, and handle the install.
Which Mighty Buildings Models This Applies To

Mighty Buildings uses a modular panel system rather than traditional stick framing, which means window and door rough openings are cut and reinforced at the factory. That’s good for consistency, but it also means off-the-shelf replacements from a big box store rarely seat correctly. The rough opening on a Mighty Buildings Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) tends to run slightly undersized relative to a site-built opening of the same nominal dimension, which is a compatibility gotcha we’ve seen bite more than a few owners who tried to swap in a generic unit from a home center.
The practical points: check the inside edge of the window or door frame for a manufacturer’s label. Most Mighty Buildings units shipped with dual-pane, low-E glazing in thermally broken aluminum or uPVC frames. If the label is gone (they delaminate in sun and salt air), measure the glass, not the frame. The glazing unit dimension is what determines whether we can re-glaze the existing sash or need to replace the whole assembly. Steel exterior door slabs on some of the earlier Mighty Buildings installs were standard 36×80, but the factory jamb was frequently proprietary. We carry quality aftermarket equivalents that match the original without requiring a full rough-opening rebuild. That’s usually the difference between a $1,200 fix and a $4,000 one.
We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone installations, so if your Mighty Buildings unit has a custom bar or kitchen integrated into the panel wall, we can address the whole opening, not just the glass.

Signs Your Mighty Buildings Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Condensation or fog between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) has lost its argon fill and the seal has failed. In San Diego’s temperature swings, especially inland where mornings are cool and afternoons climb, failed seals show up as permanent haze. You’re looking at glass replacement, not a whole new window.
- The door or window drags or binds when opening. On a Mighty Buildings home, this often points to panel settlement or a hinge that’s carrying more load than it was rated for. The slab itself might be fine, but ignoring the drag turns a hinge replacement into a frame repair over time.
- The lock or latch no longer engages the strike plate. Metal fatigue on the latch assembly or slight frame movement. This is also a security issue: a lock that doesn’t seat is an open invitation in parts of San Diego where opportunistic break-ins happen. We treat this as urgent.
- Drafts or visible light around the perimeter when closed. Weatherstripping and compression seals lose memory after a few years, especially on south-facing walls that bake all afternoon. On Mighty Buildings’ panelized construction, the seal channel is narrower than site-built openings, so generic weatherstrip from a hardware store often doesn’t seat properly.
- Soft spots or discoloration on the interior wall below the opening. Water has been getting past the frame flashing. By the time you see it on drywall, the damage has been happening for months. This is the one symptom we’d want to inspect within a few days of noticing it.

DIY or Call Us?
If you want to check something yourself, you can look for the label, measure the glass, and test whether the lock is engaging. That’s useful information to bring to a phone call. What we’d caution against is removing a Mighty Buildings window or exterior door on your own. The factory panel system means the frame anchors are doing structural work, and pulling the wrong fastener can damage the panel itself. Glass replacement on a second-floor unit in a San Diego ADU is genuinely hazardous without proper suction cups and a second person.
Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes. Call (619) 673-9302 and describe the symptom. We’ll give you a ballpark over the phone based on what you’re seeing, then put the full written price in your hand before any work begins.
FAQs

IGU seals typically last 8 – 12 years in San Diego’s coastal and inland climate, with south-facing units degrading faster due to daytime heat. Frames and mechanical hardware can run 20 – 30 years if the seals are maintained and hardware is lubricated. Call (619) 673-9302 for an exact assessment.
Yes, if the frame and sash are intact, we can replace just the insulated glass unit (IGU) and re-seal the assembly, which usually costs $425 – $1,250 per window. If the frame is warped or the thermal break has failed, a full replacement makes more financial sense.
Most single-unit swaps are a few hours on site. Full multiple-window replacements in a San Diego ADU typically take one to two days, including trim and sealing. We’ll tell you the schedule before we start.
We keep common IGU sizes, weather sealing, latch assemblies, and standard door slabs on our trucks and in our San Diego yard. Proprietary or unusual sizes get ordered and arrive within a week. We’ll tell you which category you fall into on the first call.
