Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Boxabl bathroom remodeling in San Diego typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing a compact wet bath or rebuilding a full bathroom from the studs out. We keep Boxabl-compatible fixtures, plumbing fittings, and wall panels in stock or sourced within days, and we can usually start a Boxabl bathroom remodel within two weeks of your written estimate. Most owners call us after noticing a slow drain, a soft spot in the shower wall, or a hinge pulling loose from the factory-installed cabinet.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

Boxabl’s Casita units share a common bathroom footprint across most of the units we see in San Diego County, but there are two important differences. Early-production Casitas (roughly 2021 through mid-2023) used a 30-by-60-inch one-piece shower pan with a wall-mounted sink basin. Later units switched to a 32-inch pan and a corner vanity configuration. If you’re not sure which you have, measure the shower pan left to right at the drain line. Thirty inches means early build, thirty-two means current spec. The wall panel mounting channel changed at that same point, from a 3/4-inch aluminum channel to a thinner steel track that sits closer to the panel face, so panels are not interchangeable across that production break.
Boxabl does not sell bathroom components direct to homeowners in most cases. That leaves you with two paths: source OEM-spec parts through a distributor, or use equivalent specification-grade replacements. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Boxabl, and in our experience a Kohler pan or a Moen faucet performs as well as or better than the factory unit at a comparable price. That’s what we typically install when a Boxabl part has failed or is discontinued.

Signs Your Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Shower pan flex or soft spots underfoot. The foam-core base in early Boxabl units can compress where the drain pipe sits. If the pan gives when you step near the drain, water is likely pooling underneath and the substrate is degrading.
- Wall panel separation at the seams. The vinyl wall panels are bonded to a channel at the panel edges. Temperature swings in San Diego’s inland neighborhoods, like El Cajon and Escondido, cause expansion and contraction that eventually breaks that bond and lets moisture behind the panel.
- Cabinet hinges tearing out of the vanity. The factory vanity uses particleboard, which doesn’t hold screw threads well in humid bathroom air. Once one hinge tears out, the door sags and the other hinges follow.
- Persistent sewer odor near the toilet base. The wax ring or the flange connection under a Boxabl toilet can shift during transport and setup. If you smell sewer gas after the unit has settled, the seal isn’t holding.
- Slow drainage in the shower or sink. Boxabl plumbing runs are compact and use tight bends. Hair, scale from San Diego’s hard water, and soap buildup restricts those runs faster than a conventional bathroom drain.

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Confirm which shower pan width you have. Look under the sink for a manufacturer label on the vanity. Check whether your wall panels have the aluminum channel or the thinner steel track. That tells us a lot before we arrive.
What we’d rather you not attempt is pulling the shower pan, cutting into the wall panels, or touching any of the plumbing connections. The shutoff valves in a Boxabl are behind the wall panels, and once you open that wall, you’re dealing with a compact plumbing bay where one wrong cut means water inside the unit’s shell. That’s not a weekend repair. Call us at (619) 673-9302 and we’ll bring the right parts and the right saw.
FAQs

Most Boxabl bathroom remodels take 3 to 6 working days from start to finish. A wet bath refresh with no structural surprises can finish in 3 days. A full rebuild with custom panel sizing runs closer to a week because the adhesives and waterproofing need cure time between steps. Call (619) 673-9302 for a schedule estimate on your specific unit.
A Boxabl shower pan with a soft spot or flex at the drain cannot be reliably repaired, because the foam core compresses permanently and the cracks in the gel coat allow water into the substrate. Patching the surface buys weeks, not years. Replacement is the honest fix. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll confirm what we’re looking at before you spend anything.
We stock the most common Boxabl replacement items on our trucks: shower valve cartridges, drain assemblies, toilet wax rings, and trim kits. Larger components like pans and wall panels are ordered per job, and we source them from specification-grade partners like Kohler and Moen for faster lead times than OEM channels. If a part is discontinued, we’ll tell you that plainly and offer an equivalent. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll check availability while you’re on the phone.
No. You receive a written price before any work begins, and that’s the price you pay unless you ask us to add scope. If we open the wall and find something unexpected, we stop, explain what we found, and give you a written change order before we touch it. You approve the number before any additional work happens. Call (619) 673-9302 and Isaac Pruett will walk you through how the estimate process works.
