Plant Prefab Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Plant Prefab kitchen remodeling in San Diego typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing cabinets and counters or doing a full gut renovation. We stock Plant Prefab-compatible cabinetry, hardware, and surface materials, and we can usually start the job within two to three weeks of your written estimate. Most owners call us after living with a kitchen that was shipped tight and efficient but has started to show its age: laminate edges peeling, cabinet boxes pulling away from the prefab wall system, or countertops delaminating where the factory seam runs.
Which Plant Prefab Models This Applies To

We work on the full Plant Prefab line, including their series built around standard kitchen modules. The key thing to understand is that Plant Prefab kitchens use a modular chassis underneath everything, so the rough openings and cabinet attachment points are set by the factory spec, not by whatever was convenient on a stick-built job site. If you can find the model label inside a cabinet door or on the underside of a drawer box, that tells us a lot. If not, we measure the opening spacing and the cabinet box depth, because Plant Prefab has used both 24-inch and 30-inch deep base cabinets depending on the series and the year it shipped. That depth difference changes what replacement cabinetry will fit without modifying the chassis.
One honest note: we’re an independent San Diego remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Plant Prefab. We stock aftermarket cabinetry brands like KraftMaid and Wellborn that match Plant Prefab’s module dimensions, plus surface brands like Cambria and Silestone for counters. We also handle OEM-sourced replacements when that’s the right call. The aftermarket route often gets you a better warranty and a faster lead time, but we’ll show you both options with the price on each so you can decide without pressure.

Signs Your Plant Prefab Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors that won’t stay aligned. Plant Prefab cabinets hang on a rail system tied to the module frame. When the adjusters strip or the rail mounting screws work loose from years of California door slams, the doors drift and never sit square. This usually means new hardware, not new cabinets, but it needs a pro who understands the rail spacing.
- Delaminating countertop edges. Factory seams in laminate counters start to lift after years of San Diego humidity swings near the coast. Once the edge band peels, water gets into the substrate and the counter swells. Silestone or Cambria replacement tops solve this permanently, but the substrate has to be checked first.
- Drawer glides that catch or drop. The factory soft-close glides in Plant Prefab kitchens are decent, but they’re a known wear item after about 8 to 10 years of daily use. A dropped drawer can crack the box behind the glide, and then you’re replacing the drawer box too.
- Cabinet boxes separating from the wall or each other. This is the one most owners miss until it’s obvious. The module framing behind the drywall shifts slightly as the home settles, and screws that once held everything tight back out. Left alone, a full cabinet run can sag enough to crack the counter.
- Water staining at the sink base. The factory plumbing cutouts under a Plant Prefab sink are sealed at build time, but that seal doesn’t last forever. A slow drip at a supply line or the disposal connection wicks into the cabinet bottom. By the time you see the stain, the box floor usually needs replacing.

Every line-item price is written down before we start. That’s the rule around here: a written price delivered before any work begins, no verbal estimate that grows on the final bill. The written quote includes parts, labor, haul-off of the old material, and any permits San Diego County requires for the scope. Every completed project is covered by a written guarantee stating exactly what’s covered and for how long: 365 days from the completion date. If anything we installed fails in that window, we return and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a few things yourself: tightening exposed hinge screws, wiping down glides, checking under the sink for drips. A kitchen remodel is not among them. The moment you’re pulling cabinet boxes off a prefab wall module, you’re into the chassis system that Plant Prefab engineered as a unit, and a single misjudged cut through a wall panel can compromise the module’s structural connection. That’s expensive to undo. If you’re not sure whether what you’re looking at is surface wear or structural fatigue, call (619) 673-9302. We’ll tell you whether it’s a tune-up or a tear-out, and the estimate doesn’t cost you anything.
FAQs

A factory-built Plant Prefab kitchen typically holds up for 15 to 25 years in San Diego’s climate, but the components wear at different rates. Cabinet hardware and laminate edges go first, usually between years 8 and 12; cabinet boxes and quartz surfaces can outlast the house if they’re kept dry. Coastal humidity is harder on laminate than inland dry heat, so a Point Loma kitchen will need edge work sooner than one in El Cajon. Call (619) 673-9302 if you want us to look at what’s wearing and give you a straight answer on remaining life.
Yes, in most cases we can replace individual drawer boxes, hinge sets, glide assemblies, or a damaged cabinet box without tearing out the whole run. The challenge is matching the module’s original mounting system, which is why we spec parts based on measurements rather than hoping a generic big-box cabinet fits. We’ll tell you when a repair buys you another five years and when you’re past that point. Call (619) 673-9302 for an exact scope and price, written down before we touch anything.
A cabinet and countertop refresh inside the existing footprint usually takes 3 to 5 working days of on-site time once materials arrive. A full kitchen remodel with island changes, backsplash, and hardware throughout runs 2 to 4 weeks depending on material lead times. We give you a schedule in writing with the estimate, and any material delay gets communicated before it becomes your problem. Call (619) 673-9302 to talk through your timeline and get your free written estimate.
We stock common replacement hardware, glide sets, hinge kits, and edge banding on our trucks for the most common Plant Prefab kitchen components, and we keep relationships with San Diego suppliers who can get cabinet boxes and counter materials to a job in days, not months. If a part is a Plant Prefab-specific component that has to come from the factory, we’ll tell you the real lead time before you commit to anything. Call (619) 673-9302 and tell us what’s broken. We’ll tell you what it takes.
