ActiveYards Windows & Doors: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
ActiveYards fencing systems use a proprietary window and door kit built into aluminum frame sections, and when one fails, the fix usually means replacing the insert or the surrounding frame rail rather than the whole panel. In San Diego, you can expect to pay between $140 and $485 installed for an ActiveYards window replacement and $265 to $720 for an ActiveYards door or gate inset, depending on panel size and whether the frame rail needs to be re-cut. Most owners discover the failure the same way: a gate window starts rattling, a frame insert cracks along the screw line, or a door latch stops catching because the frame has torqued out of square after a few seasons of coastal wind and sun.
We’re an independent service provider in San Diego, not affiliated with ActiveYards. What that means for you is simple: we match the part, we install it, and we stand behind the work for 365 days. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards manufactures aluminum fence and gate systems in several lines, including the ActiveYards aluminum residential series and the heavier-gauge commercial grade panels. The window and door components are not universal across every line. The most common compatibility issue we see in San Diego is someone buying a window insert meant for the 2-inch residential rail profile when their system actually uses the 2.5-inch heavy-duty profile, or vice versa. The insert won’t seat properly, and the screws will bind before the frame ever sits flush.
The reliable way to identify what you need is to look at the inside face of the fence panel. ActiveYards stamps a sticker or debossed marking near the top rail on most residential runs, usually showing the series name and the rail dimension. If that marking is gone after years of California sun, we measure the rail face width with a caliper on site. That measurement, plus the opening size, tells us whether you need the OEM ActiveYards insert or whether a quality aftermarket equivalent will fit without modification. For most San Diego installs, the OEM part costs 20 to 30 percent more and ships in 7 to 10 days. Aftermarket equivalents in the same aluminum gauge often match or exceed the original specs, and we stock the common sizes on the truck.

Signs Your ActiveYards Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Rattling in the frame when the gate closes. The vinyl or acrylic window insert has shrunk slightly from UV exposure, which is common on south-facing San Diego runs. The rubber gasket that holds it is now doing all the work, and eventually the insert works loose enough to crack along the screw holes.
- Cracks running from the corner screws. This is the classic ActiveYards failure near the coast. Salt air and temperature swings make the aluminum expand and contract, and the rigid insert doesn’t flex with it. Once the crack starts, water gets between the insert and the rail and accelerates the rot.
- Gate door that drags or won’t latch. The door frame is held square by the surrounding rail. When the frame section loosens or the hinge post shifts, the door starts binding at the latch or dragging on the bottom rail. It’s rarely the latch itself; it’s the frame that moved.
- Fogging or clouding inside the window panes. Dual-pane ActiveYards inserts have a seal between the glass layers. Once that seal fails, you get interior condensation that never dries. There’s no field repair for that; the insert gets replaced.
- Powder coating lifted around the window opening. Moisture gets under the coating where the insert meets the rail, and the coating starts peeling in a ring around the opening. If left alone, the bare aluminum underneath pits and the rail eventually loses structural strength at the corners.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard ActiveYards window insert in San Diego, installed pricing runs $140 to $485 depending on size, glass type, and whether we need to re-cut the rail opening. Door and gate insets run higher, $265 to $720, because the frame has to be squared and the hinge hardware often needs to be reset. If the surrounding rail is damaged or corroded, expect to add $60 to $180 per rail section for replacement.
What’s included in our price: the part itself, removal of the failed unit, cleaning and prep of the frame rail, new gaskets, stainless fasteners suited to coastal exposure, and the installation. You get a written price before we start, and the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything we install fails within that year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
If your ActiveYards window insert is rattling, you can try snugging the corner screws with a manual screwdriver, but do not over-torque them; over-tightened screws are how most cracked inserts get worse. If you see a crack, fogging, or a gate door that won’t latch, that’s a frame issue, not a hardware issue. The repair requires pulling the panel section and re-cutting the aluminum rail cleanly with a metal blade, which is the point where most DIY attempts end with a gouged rail and a door that still doesn’t latch.
We bring the right sized insert, the right gauge rail for your ActiveYards series, and we handle the re-squaring on site. Call (619) 673-9302 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight answer and a written quote before anything gets touched.
FAQs

In San Diego’s coastal climate, expect 10 to 15 years from a quality insert before UV, salt, or mechanical stress from the gate cycle catches up with it. South-facing runs with no shade coverage go faster, often showing cracks by year 8.
In almost all cases, no. A fogged dual-pane insert and a cracked acrylic panel are both replace-only items, and the gasket system isn’t sold separately. The one repair that makes sense is re-squaring a gate frame, which doesn’t require a new door insert but does require resetting the rail and hinge hardware. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you which it is.
Most ActiveYards window insert replacements in San Diego take under an hour if the rail is sound. A door or gate inset with frame re-squaring runs two to three hours. If a rail needs to be cut and replaced, that pushes to a half day, but it’s still a one-visit job.
We stock the common window and gate insert sizes for the two residential rail profiles in aluminum, plus the matching gaskets and stainless hardware. If you have a less common size, we order it and it typically arrives at our San Diego shop within 7 to 10 days.
