American Standard Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

American Standard kitchen remodeling in San Diego typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 for a full remodel, with smaller kitchen projects starting around $10,620. We install American Standard-compatible fixtures, faucets, and sinks as part of complete kitchen renovations, and we stock common replacement parts on our trucks so we’re not running back to the supply house mid-job. Most San Diego homeowners discover they need this work when a faucet cartridge finally gives out, a sink shows hairline cracks, or the cabinetry around an old American Standard sink has water damage from years of slow leaks.

We’re an independent contractor serving San Diego County. We’re not affiliated with American Standard, but we work with their products daily and know the quirks of their older and current lines. If you’re in North Park with a 1980s American Standard sink and matching wall-mount faucet, or in Carlsbad with a newer American Standard pull-down that’s dripping, we can match the part or guide you toward a full remodel that makes more sense than patching.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard has produced kitchen fixtures under several lines over the decades, and the compatibility details matter more than most homeowners expect. The Colony, Heritage, and Reliant lines from the 1980s and 1990s use different cartridge sizes than the current Pekoe, Edgewater, and Beale lines. A faucet that looks similar on the outside can take a completely different stem assembly inside.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often in San Diego: older American Standard kitchen faucets built before 2000 often use ceramic disc cartridges with a 40mm body, while post-2005 models moved to 35mm or, in some pull-down models, a 46mm cartridge. If you order the wrong one, it won’t seat, and you’ll either force it and crack the housing or give up and call us anyway. The quickest way to identify your faucet is to look under the sink body for a stamped model number starting with a letter followed by four digits (something like “F1234”). If it’s worn off, measure the cartridge diameter once you remove the handle.

The OEM versus aftermarket decision is straightforward for American Standard kitchen parts. OEM cartridges and spray heads fit perfectly and last a decade or more in San Diego water conditions, which are hard but not as brutal on seals as Arizona or Nevada water. Quality aftermarket equivalents from Danco or Plumb Pak cost 40 to 60 percent less and usually work fine, but we’ve seen aftermarket spray heads with weaker diverter springs that fail within a year. For parts hidden inside the wall, like rough-in valve cartridges, we recommend OEM every time. The labor to get back in there costs more than the part savings.

We also carry parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, and Cambria and Silestone countertop materials, which rounds out the kitchen picture when you’re doing more than a fixture swap.

Signs Your American Standard Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Dripping from the spout when the handle is off. This means the cartridge seals have worn out. American Standard cartridges use ceramic discs that last 8 to 12 years in typical San Diego households before mineral buildup or a cracked disc causes a slow drip.
  • Handle is stiff or hard to turn. Hard water deposits from San Diego’s municipal supply build up inside the cartridge body. Older Colony and Heritage models are especially prone to this because the cartridge housing had tighter tolerances.
  • Spray head won’t switch back to stream mode. The diverter mechanism inside the spray head has a small spring and rubber flapper that wears out. This is the most common failure we see on the Pekoe and Edgewater pull-down lines.
  • Sink surface shows hairline cracks or rust around the drain opening. Enameled steel sinks from the older American Standard lines crack after decades of thermal cycling, and once the enamel is breached, the steel underneath rusts. In coastal San Diego, salt air accelerates this.
  • Water stains or soft cabinet floor under the sink. This is often a slow leak at the supply line connection or the drain basket, not the faucet itself. Left alone, it rots the cabinet base and you’re looking at cabinet replacement on top of the plumbing fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

Here’s what American Standard kitchen remodeling work costs in San Diego, installed:

  • Full kitchen remodel (American Standard fixtures plus cabinetry, counters, backsplash): $16,520 – $53,100
  • Small kitchen remodel: $10,620 – $23,600
  • Cabinet installation only: $4,720 – $15,340
  • Countertop installation only: $2,360 – $7,670
  • Backsplash installation: $945 – $2,950
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,540 – $11,800

What drives the range? Cabinet grade is the biggest variable, followed by countertop material and whether we’re moving plumbing or keeping the sink where it sits. Every project gets a written price before we start, and that price includes labor, parts, and the written guarantee. If you’re doing a full remodel, we pull permits when required and the inspection sign-off happens before we call the job done. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if something isn’t right within a year, we return at no cost to you.

DIY or Call Us?

For a dripping faucet or sticky handle, a confident homeowner can replace an American Standard cartridge. It’s a 30-minute job with the right part and a basin wrench. The risk is buying the wrong cartridge, forcing it, and cracking the faucet body, at which point you’re replacing the whole fixture anyway.

For anything involving a cracked sink, loose undermount, water-damaged cabinetry, or a full remodel, call us. Undermount sinks are held by clips and epoxy; if one fails, the sink drops and tears the plumbing with it. We see this happen. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.

We’re background-checked, uniformed, and you’ll see a photo and name before we arrive. Call (619) 673-9302 and a live person answers, day or night.
