Atlas Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have an Atlas kitchen and something’s failed, a full kitchen remodel in San Diego typically runs $16,520 to $53,100, and we can usually get your project scheduled within two to three weeks. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer front comes loose in your hand, a hinge snaps mid-swing, or a cabinet box starts pulling away from the wall where the original installer missed a stud. We’re Mason Remodeling Co San Diego, and we’ve rebuilt enough Atlas kitchens across San Diego County to know exactly what fails first and what it takes to fix it right.
We’re an independent San Diego remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Atlas. That matters because we’re not here to sell you a brand. We’re here to match what you already have, price it honestly, and install it so it stays put. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when a kitchen has mixed brands or the homeowner wants to upgrade while we’re already in there.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas kitchen cabinetry has been sold through a few different channels over the years, and the hardware and construction changed with each generation. Older Atlas lines from the early 2000s used standard 32mm European drilling patterns with Salice or Blum clip-on hinges. Newer lines, especially anything sold through big-box channels in the last ten years, shifted to a mix of concealed soft-close hinges and cheaper roller hardware, depending on the price tier. That’s the first gotcha: two Atlas kitchens can look nearly identical from the outside and take completely different hinge plates inside.
Before you order anything or rip a door off, check the inside of the cabinet door or the underside of a drawer box. Atlas typically stamped a model number or date code there, usually in ink or on a small paper label. If the label’s gone, measure the hinge cup hole: 35mm is the industry standard for most Atlas doors, but some compact or corner units used a 26mm cup. And here’s the second gotcha we see regularly in San Diego: Atlas door finishes fade unevenly in coastal sun, so a replacement door ordered by model number alone can arrive visibly brighter than the rest of the kitchen. We order samples first whenever the existing finish has years of sun exposure. As for OEM versus aftermarket, for hinges and drawer slides we lean OEM when the part is still available, because the hole patterns and overtravel specs match without modification. For drawer boxes and door fronts, quality aftermarket fabrication is often the better route, since we can cut and finish to match what’s actually in your kitchen, not what the original spec sheet said.

Signs Your Atlas Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Doors that sag or won’t close flush. The hinge plate screws have stripped out of the particleboard door or the hinge itself has worn at the pivot. On Atlas cabinets, we see this most often on doors wider than 18 inches that were installed with two hinges instead of three.
- Drawer boxes that stick or drop on one side. The nylon wheel or ball bearing inside the slide has cracked. Atlas roller slides from the mid-2010s are particularly prone to this in San Diego’s dry heat, which makes the plastic brittle faster than in milder climates.
- The cabinet box itself pulling away from the wall. The original installer missed a stud or used drywall anchors. This is structural, not cosmetic, and it usually gets worse slowly until one day the whole upper cabinet is leaning forward.
- Soft-close hinges that slam. The damping cylinder inside the hinge has leaked or dried out. Atlas soft-close hinges are not rebuildable. The fix is a hinge replacement, not a repair.
- Discolored or peeling door fronts near the sink or dishwasher. Steam and water exposure have gotten under the finish. In San Diego’s hard water, this shows up faster than in softer-water regions, especially on older Atlas thermofoil doors.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For San Diego homeowners, here’s what we quote for the most common Atlas kitchen fixes, installed:
- Full kitchen remodel: $16,520 – $53,100 depending on layout, cabinet count, counters, and finishes
- Cabinet installation (new boxes, all hardware): $4,720 – $15,340
- Kitchen island installation: $3,540 – $11,800
- Countertop installation: $2,360 – $7,670
- Backsplash installation: $945 – $2,950
The range comes down to three things: how many cabinets or components are actually failing, whether we’re matching existing finishes or replacing an entire run, and whether the underlying wall structure needs repair before anything gets reinstalled. Every quote is a written price before work starts, not a verbal estimate that grows later. That’s not a promotion. That’s how we’ve worked since 2004. And every kitchen project we complete in San Diego carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you. The terms are in writing, including what’s covered and what’s excluded.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. If a hinge is simply loose, you can tighten the screws with a hand screwdriver. If the screw just spins, don’t reach for a bigger screw; the particleboard is stripped and you’ll make the hole worse. If a drawer slide is bent, you can swap it yourself if you can find the exact stamped model number and match the length. What you should not attempt is pulling down an upper cabinet, re-hanging a failed cabinet box, or replacing multiple hinges that require re-aligning the door faces. Upper cabinets in San Diego kitchens regularly hold 100 pounds or more of dishes. When one comes off the wall because an anchor let go, it doesn’t just damage the cabinet. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes. Call us at (619) 673-9302 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing.
FAQs

Atlas kitchen cabinets typically last 15 to 25 years in San Diego, with hinges and drawer slides usually failing before the cabinet boxes themselves. Coastal humidity shortens hardware life; inland heat accelerates finish wear. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll assess what’s worth saving versus replacing.
Hinges, drawer slides, and door fronts can usually be repaired or replaced without touching the cabinet box, and that’s where most of the value is. A cabinet box pulling from the wall can also be re-secured properly to studs. We’ll give you an honest repair-versus-replace price before you commit to anything.
