Barrette Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a Barrette kitchen product that’s failed, we stock and install compatible replacement parts across San Diego County, with full kitchen remodels running $16,520 – $53,100 depending on scope. Most Barrette-related repair and replacement work can be diagnosed in a single visit, and we carry common Barrette-compatible hardware on our trucks. You’ll typically know something’s wrong when a cabinet door won’t close flush, a drawer slide grinds, or a hinge has pulled loose from the face frame.
Which Barrette Models This Applies To
Barrette manufactures a range of kitchen cabinetry and organizational hardware, and over the years we’ve worked on their stock cabinet lines, pantry systems, and drawer hardware across hundreds of San Diego homes. The most common compatibility issue we see is this: Barrette cabinet hinges and drawer slides changed mounting-hole spacing between older and newer production runs, so a hinge from 2012 will not always swap cleanly into a 2021 cabinet. Before ordering, look for the stamped code on the hinge cup or slide body, usually a four-to-six character marking, and measure the hole spread with the old part off the face frame. We match OEM Barrette parts by that code and measurement, but we’ll also tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket equivalent, like a Blum or Salice slide, will outlast the original at a lower installed cost. One more thing worth knowing: Barrette’s melamine-coated cabinet boxes hold up fine in San Diego’s dry climate, but edge banding near the dishwasher or under the sink tends to peel within six to eight years from rising steam and heat. That’s usually the first visible failure.

Signs Your Barrette Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet door won’t stay closed. The hinge’s internal spring clip has weakened or snapped. On Barrette hinges, this clip is plastic on several economy lines, and it fatigues faster in kitchens that get heavy daily use.
- Drawer sticks halfway or drops to one side. The ball-bearing slide has lost its cage or one rail is bent. We see this most often on wide bottom drawers holding pots and pans, where weight exceeds what the original slide was rated for.
- Hinge screws spin without tightening. The particleboard or MDF face frame has stripped around the original screw hole. This is the single most common failure we repair in older San Diego kitchens, especially in coastal neighborhoods where humidity speeds up fiber breakdown.
- Adjustment screw no longer changes door alignment. The cam inside the hinge has stripped or the baseplate has cracked. Once that happens, the door will sag at the corner no matter how much you adjust it.
- Soft-close feature slams hard. The damper piston inside the hinge cup has lost its fluid or its seal. On Barrette soft-close hinges, the damper is not serviceable as a separate piece, so the whole hinge gets replaced.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Barrette-specific kitchen work in San Diego, most hardware-only repairs (hinges, slides, shelf clips) fall in the $120 – $400 range for parts and a single service visit. If the failure is widespread or the cabinetry itself is tired, a full kitchen remodel in San Diego runs $16,520 – $53,100, with smaller kitchens starting around $10,620 – $23,600. Cabinet installation alone runs $4,720 – $15,340, and countertop installation runs $2,360 – $7,670. Every quote comes as a written price before any work starts, with parts and labor separated so you see exactly what you’re paying for. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if anything we installed fails within a year of completion, we return and fix it at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
Checking a badge code or measuring hole spacing is safe for any homeowner. What’s not safe is trying to route a new hinge plate into a stripped face frame by hand, or forcing a slide that’s been bent. We’ve walked into too many San Diego kitchens where a well-intentioned DIY repair took a $40 hinge replacement and turned it into a full door replacement. Cabinet hardware is low-risk to inspect, but when panels need to come off or face frames need to be rebuilt, call us. Isaac Pruett started on framing and finish work years ago and his whole crew works to the same standard: figure out what’s broken, fix it once. Tell us what’s failed, and we’ll give you a straight answer on cost. Call (619) 673-9302.
FAQs

Most Barrette hinges last eight to twelve years under normal use in San Diego; soft-close dampers tend to fail first, often by year six or seven in busy kitchens. Coastal humidity can shorten that by a year or two, which we account for when we specify replacement hardware. Call (619) 673-9302 for an exact quote.
No. The damper and spring mechanism inside a Barrette soft-close hinge is sealed at the factory, and once the clip or piston fails, the hinge needs replacement. We carry commonly used Barrette-compatible hinges on our trucks, which means the swap is often done the same visit. For a written price before the work starts, call (619) 673-9302.
Most hinge and slide replacements for a single cabinet are done in under an hour; a full kitchen of drawer slides and hinges typically takes half a day, assuming the cabinet boxes are sound. If face frames need rebuilding or the boxes themselves are compromised, the timeline extends to a larger remodel and you’ll get that written timeline before we begin. Call (619) 673-9302 to schedule.
We stock the Barrette-compatible hinges, slides, and clips we see most often, and we source OEM parts by badge code for anything unusual. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for cabinetry and surface replacements when a larger fix is the right call. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you what’s on the truck.
