CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a CertainTeed paver driveway that’s cracked, settled, or coming apart at the joints, we stock compatible pavers and often match existing patterns same week. An installed paver driveway replacement in San Diego typically runs $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, base repair, and access. Most homeowners discover the failure when a wheel drops into a sunken spot, or when paver sand keeps washing out onto the street after every rain.
We’re an independent San Diego contractor, not a CertainTeed dealer, but we work with their pavers every week and know which sizes and finishes hold up in coastal air and inland heat. If you can tell us your paver dimensions and show a photo, we’ll tell you what it takes. That’s the Isaac Pruett approach: “Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.”
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed’s hardscape line runs through their Landmark Paver and CertaSet families, with a smaller catalog of Brickform and Hansel compatible profiles. The paver identification is usually stamped on the underside: a mold code plus dimension in millimeters. Common San Diego installations use the 60mm paver in a 4×8 or 6×9 rectangle, but 80mm and interlocking square profiles show up in older driveways, especially in Mission Hills and Kensington where paver work was popular before 2010.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people hit: CertainTeed changed color-blend names in 2019, so a “Sierra Blend” bought in 2017 is not the same tint as today’s “Sierra Blend.” Photograph the dry paver in direct sunlight before calling anyone. If we can’t match the exact production lot, the honest fix is a full-driveway re-pattern rather than a patch that looks like a scar. For OEM vs. aftermarket: paver equivalents from Basalite or McNear match dimensionally, but the color-fastness and surface texture differ enough that mixing them mid-driveway never looks right. We’ll tell you when a match is possible and when it isn’t.

Signs Your CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Sunken wheel tracks or a low spot that holds water after rain. The base under the pavers has eroded, usually from poor compaction or a broken irrigation line running beneath. In San Diego’s clay-heavy soil, seasonal swelling makes this worse in neighborhoods like North Park and University Heights.
- Sand washing out between joints after every rain. Polymeric sand has broken down and needs removal and re-sanding. If the joints just get loose pavers sliding side to side, the edge restraint has failed.
- Edge pavers tipping outward at the driveway’s border. The plastic or metal edging is shot. This is the first thing to fail on older CertainTeed installs, especially where a car tire crosses the same corner every morning.
- Cracked or chipped pavers in a checkerboard pattern. Usually a point load problem, often from a heavy vehicle turning in place. One or two cracked pavers can be swapped. A dozen cracked in a pattern means the base wasn’t compacted enough to start with.
- Weeds sprouting through the joints within weeks of spraying. This often means water is pooling underneath and roots are finding nutrients in decomposed base material. Patching the weeds without fixing the drainage just buys you a summer.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Diego, full paver driveway replacement for a typical two-car drive runs $8,260 – $21,240, installed. That includes demo and haul-off of the old pavers, base excavation where needed, new Class II base, compaction, edge restraint, paver installation, polymeric sand in the joints, and a final plate-compact pass. If your failure is limited to a section, a partial repair runs lower, and we’ll price the actual square footage only.
What moves the price: total square footage, whether the subsurface soil needs lime treatment, how far the excavated material has to be carried, and whether your existing pavers can be salvaged and re-laid. Salvaging pavers in good shape often cuts the material cost in half. For paver driveway replacement, we use Concrete Driveway Installation pricing guidance ($5,310 – $14,160) as a reference when a concrete slab underlayment is part of the fix. For larger paver projects that bump into hardscape territory, Paver Patio Installation ranges ($4,130 – $12,980) apply to attached patio areas.
We deliver a written price before any work starts, and every job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the pavers fail within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
One or two cracked pavers can sometimes be lifted and swapped by a patient homeowner with a flat pry bar and a rubber mallet, but under no circumstances should you dig out a settled paver section and re-lay it over the same bad base. The base is the problem, and all the leveling sand in San Diego County won’t fix a sinking base. If your driveway has more than a few cracked or loose pavers, or if the settlement is deeper than an inch, call (619) 673-9302 before you start. We’ll give you a straight answer, even if it’s “keep driving on it for now.”
FAQs

A properly installed CertainTeed paver driveway typically lasts 25 – 40 years in San Diego’s climate, with the pavers themselves surviving much longer than the base underneath. What usually fails first here is the sand and edge restraint, not the paver itself. Call (619) 673-9302 for an honest lifespan assessment on your specific driveway.
Yes, if the base is still sound and the damage is limited to surface issues like cracked pavers, bad edge restraint, or joint sand failure. If the base has settled or eroded, a patch job will fail within a year. We’ll tell you which category yours falls into, plainly.
A standard two-car paver driveway replacement takes 3 – 5 working days from demo to final compaction, depending on access and weather. Partial repairs like single-paver swaps or edge fixes are often done in a half day. We’ll give you a written date window before any work is scheduled.
We keep a rotating stock of common 60mm and 80mm paver profiles in neutral San Diego color blends, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone surface stock for indoor-adjacent hardscape tie-ins, but exact CertainTeed color matches are typically special-ordered. We’ll show you the sample against your existing paver before you commit to a single number.
