CGI Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a CGI bathroom product that’s failing, we’ll match it to the right replacement and install it correctly. A full CGI bathroom remodel in San Diego typically runs $10,620 to $33,040, depending on what’s actually failed and how much surrounding work the fix requires. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a shower surround starts pulling away from the wall, a CGI component cracks at a seam, or water stains appear on the ceiling below the bathroom. What starts as a small cosmetic issue is usually a water intrusion problem underneath, and that’s where the real cost lives.
We’re an independent San Diego remodeling contractor, not affiliated with CGI. What that means for you is simple: we’ll tell you honestly whether the CGI part can be repaired or whether it needs full replacement, and we won’t push you toward a product we happen to stock. Isaac Pruett and our crew have worked on CGI bathroom systems across San Diego County, from Mission Valley condos to coastal homes in Point Loma where salt air accelerates wear on every surface it touches.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI bathroom products span several product lines, and the failure point determines what we’re actually replacing. Most CGI bathroom components in San Diego homes fall into three categories: shower surrounds and wall systems, tub surround panels, and vanity or storage units. The tells are in the product labels. Look inside the shower wall panel or on the underside of the vanity for a CGI series number, usually printed on a small white tag. That number tells us the exact panel dimensions, which matters more than most homeowners expect. A CGI surround made for a 60-inch tub opening will not fit a 59-inch rough opening without visible shimming, and shim gaps are exactly where water gets in.
The OEM versus aftermarket question depends on the part. For structural components like shower wall panels and corner joints, we recommend OEM CGI whenever it’s still available. These panels are molded to fit each other, and aftermarket equivalents rarely match the interlock geometry. For non-structural trim pieces, drain covers, and some hardware, quality aftermarket parts work fine and often cost less. We’ll walk you through what’s worth OEM money and where you can save.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your CGI Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Caulk lines pulling away from CGI panels at the corners. This is the most common early sign in San Diego, where temperature swings between coastal fog and inland heat cause the panel material to expand and contract. Once the seal breaks, water gets behind the panel and the clock starts.
- Soft spots in the drywall directly below or beside the CGI surround. Water has already penetrated behind the panel. By the time drywall feels soft to the touch, the framing underneath may also be wet, which means the repair scope just grew.
- Discoloration or yellowing at panel seams. This isn’t just cosmetic. The adhesive behind the seam has likely broken down, and what you’re seeing is moisture wicking through the joint. It will not dry out on its own.
- CGI vanity doors or drawer fronts warping or failing to close flush. Bathroom humidity is hard on composite materials. Once a CGI vanity component warps, the hinges and slides are working at angles they weren’t designed for, and they’ll fail next.
- Musty smell that returns within days of cleaning. That smell is mold feeding on moisture trapped behind a CGI surface. Cleaning the visible surface does nothing. The water source has to be found and stopped.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Diego, CGI bathroom work breaks down by scope. A straightforward CGI surround panel replacement typically lands between $5,310 and $14,160. A full CGI bathroom remodel, where we’re replacing the surround, addressing any water damage behind it, and often updating the vanity and fixtures at the same time, runs $10,620 to $33,040. The spread comes down to what we find when we open the wall. Homes in older San Diego neighborhoods like North Park and South Park often have plumbing that’s past its useful life, and it’s cheaper to replace it while the wall is open than to close everything up and cut back in two years later.
Every quote is written, line-itemed, and delivered before work starts. No verbal estimates that grow on the final bill. The written price covers the parts, the labor, the disposal, and the permit if one’s required. Our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Confirm the CGI series number on the label. Note exactly where water stains or caulk failures appear. Take photos with good lighting. That saves us time and you money on diagnostics. What you should not do is remove a CGI panel to “take a look” behind it. Once a surround panel is pulled, the waterproofing plane is broken, and putting it back correctly requires knowing how the original interlock was seated. We’ve seen homeowners in San Diego pry off a panel, silicone it back on, and have the whole wall rot out within a year because the water path was never actually closed.
Water behind a CGI surround is a structural problem wearing a cosmetic mask. If you’ve got soft drywall, a persistent mildew smell, or seams that won’t stay caulked, call us at (619) 673-9302. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
FAQs

In San Diego’s climate, a properly installed and maintained CGI surround typically lasts 15 to 20 years. Coastal homes in neighborhoods like La Jolla or Ocean Beach may see shorter lifespans due to salt air and constant humidity, while inland homes in areas like Scripps Ranch often get the full 20 years. The failure point is almost always the seals, not the panels themselves. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you honestly whether yours is worth repairing or has reached the end of its service life.
Seam and caulk failures can sometimes be resealed if caught early and if there’s no water damage behind the panel. Once drywall is soft or mold is present, repair stops being a surface fix and becomes a replacement job. We’ll open only what’s necessary, show you what we find, and give you a written price before any additional work proceeds.
A single CGI surround panel replacement is typically a one to two day job. A full bathroom remodel involving the surround, vanity, and any water damage remediation usually takes one to two weeks in San Diego, depending on whether we’re pulling permits and how extensive the framing repair is. We’ll give you a written timeline as part of your written price, and we hit our dates.
We stock common CGI trim pieces, sealants, and fasteners on our trucks. Full surround panels and vanity components are ordered by series number so you get the exact match. Ordering adds a few days to the timeline, and we factor that into your written schedule up front. For exact availability on your CGI model, call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll check stock while you’re on the phone.
If you’re planning a CGI bathroom remodel in San Diego, we also work with cabinetry from KraftMaid and surfaces from Cambria and Silestone when a full update makes sense. Call (619) 673-9302 for a free, written estimate on your CGI bathroom project.
