Delta Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Delta-compatible driveway and paver components throughout San Diego, with most paver driveway installations running $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage and base prep. If your pavers are shifting, cracking, or pooling water, we can usually diagnose the issue within one visit and have a written price in your hand the same day. Most San Diego homeowners discover a failing paver system after the first heavy rain, when a low spot turns into a puddle or a paver edge starts sinking into soft soil. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta manufactures several paver and hardscape lines, and the right replacement part depends on which series you have. The three most common in San Diego driveways are the Delta permeable paver, the Delta architectural slab, and the Delta stone-look paver. Each uses a different joint width and base requirement, so mixing series on a repair almost always fails within a year.
To identify your Delta paver, flip over a loose paver and look for the stamped series code on the underside, usually a two-letter prefix followed by a number. If the stamp is worn off, measure the paver thickness: 60mm is the architectural slab, 80mm is the standard permeable paver, and the stone-look line runs 40mm to 50mm depending on the profile. Getting this wrong means ordering the wrong edge restraint or joint sand, and that is the most common compatibility mistake we see on San Diego jobs.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Delta’s OEM pavers have tighter color calibration across batches than most aftermarket equivalents. If you are patching a small section, matching the original Delta color code matters more than saving a few dollars per square foot. If you are replacing the whole driveway, quality aftermarket pavers from Belgard or Unilock can match or beat Delta’s durability at a lower cost, and we carry both options. We are an independent San Diego contractor, not affiliated with Delta, which means we recommend the best part for your driveway, not the one a manufacturer wants us to push.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Paver rocking underfoot. A paver that wobbles when you step on it usually means the bedding sand has washed out beneath it, often from a failed edge restraint letting water in at the driveway perimeter. Left alone, the wobble spreads to neighboring pavers.
- Water pooling in the same spot after rain. San Diego’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture, and over time it can create low spots in a paver base that was installed without proper compaction. Pooling water accelerates paver degradation and invites weeds.
- Joint sand disappearing between pavers. If you see ants, weeds, or gaps opening up between pavers, the polymeric joint sand has failed. In San Diego’s dry heat, joint sand that was never properly activated breaks down faster than manufacturers admit.
- Cracks running through multiple pavers in a line. A straight crack across several pavers usually points to a base failure beneath the surface, not a paver defect. This often happens where tree roots from older San Diego neighborhoods push upward or where a base was poured too thin.
- Edge pavers drifting outward. Without a solid edge restraint, the outer row of pavers will slowly migrate toward the lawn or street under vehicle weight. Once the edge goes, the entire field starts losing its interlock and shifting.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Delta-compatible paver driveway replacement in San Diego, expect $8,260 to $21,240 installed. Smaller paver patio replacements run $4,130 to $12,980. Partial repairs, like re-bedding a sunken section or replacing a dozen cracked pavers, typically run $800 to $2,500 depending on access and base condition.
The range is driven by square footage, paver thickness, whether the existing base can be salvaged, and how much excavation the San Diego soil requires. Every quote we provide includes pavers, base material, edge restraints, joint sand, labor, and cleanup, written line by line before any work starts. You will not get a surprise invoice from us, ever. Our work carries a 365-day written guarantee from the completion date, and if a repair or installation fails within that year, we return and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single cracked paver is a reasonable Saturday project if you have the same Delta series on hand and the base beneath it is still solid. Lifting the paver, adding a thin layer of bedding sand, and re-setting it is something a careful homeowner can do with a pry bar and a rubber mallet.
What goes wrong is when the problem is below the paver. If the base has failed, the drainage is wrong, or the edge restraint has pulled away, you can replace pavers all weekend and watch them fail again next winter. That is the moment to call us at (619) 673-9302. We will pull up the affected area, show you exactly what failed underneath, and give you a written price to fix it right. No obligation, and the estimate is free.
FAQs

Delta pavers themselves typically last 25 to 40 years in San Diego’s climate, but the base and joint sand beneath them usually need attention every 8 to 15 years. The pavers rarely fail first; the system underneath them does.
Yes, in most cases we can lift the affected pavers, re-compact the base, and re-set the same pavers without buying new material. This runs significantly less than a full replacement. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your base is salvageable.
A typical single-car San Diego paver driveway takes 3 to 5 working days from demolition to final joint sand. Larger driveways or those requiring full base excavation can run 5 to 7 working days. We’ll give you a written schedule with your price, and we stick to it.
We keep common Delta architectural slabs and permeable pavers on hand in neutral San Diego colorways, along with matching edge restraints and polymeric joint sand. For less common colors or the stone-look line, we can usually have the exact match from our supplier within 3 to 5 business days. We also carry quality alternatives from Belgard and Unilock, along with parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone projects.
