Silestone Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Silestone driveway and paver components in San Diego typically run $4,130 to $21,240 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a section or replacing the full surface. We stock the common Silestone Q-Series edge restraints, paver joint sand, and base course materials on our trucks, so most calls get a same-week repair slot rather than a multi-week wait. What usually brings homeowners to this page is a paver that’s sunk an inch below its neighbors, a joint that’s washed out after winter rain, or an edge course that’s started creeping into the lawn.
You’ll notice it first as a trip hazard or a low spot that pools water. In San Diego’s clay-heavy soil zones like Clairemont and parts of Chula Vista, we see pavers shift more from soil expansion than from traffic. The fix is almost never just replacing one paver. It’s about what’s happening underneath it.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Most Silestone paver lines we service in San Diego fall into three categories: the Q-Series (interlocking concrete pavers with a chamfered edge), the Natural Stone Collection (travertine and limestone in 3cm and 2cm thicknesses), and the Permeable line designed for drainage-conscious installs. The edge restraint channel varies between them, and that’s the first compatibility gotcha. A Q-Series edge bar won’t seat correctly against a Natural Stone paver because the chamfer depth is different by roughly 6 millimeters.
To identify what you have, flip over a loose paver. Silestone stamps the series name on the underside near one corner, along with a batch code. For the Q-Series you’ll also see a “Q” followed by two digits, which is the mold number, not the color code. That matters because color codes live on the packaging, not the paver. If you’re matching a replacement, bring us the underside photo or the batch code and we’ll confirm the series before quoting. We carry OEM Silestone edge restraints and joint sand, but for base course and geotextile we use spec-equivalent aftermarket material. Same performance, less markup, and it doesn’t affect the Silestone warranty on the paver itself.
We’re an independent San Diego contractor, not a Silestone dealer, which means we don’t have to push one product line. We’ll tell you when a repair makes sense and when you’re better off with a different material under San Diego conditions.

Signs Your Silestone Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- One paver has sunk or tilted. This almost always means the base course has eroded or settled unevenly beneath that spot. Water is getting under the paver, softening the subgrade, and the paver follows it down.
- Joint sand washes out after every rain. If you’re sweeping sand back into the joints more than once a season, the edge restraint has failed somewhere and the whole field is slowly spreading. The sand isn’t the problem, it’s the containment.
- A hollow thump when you walk or drive over it. That sound means the paver has lost contact with the bedding layer. Left alone, the paver will crack under weight that should have been distributed to the base.
- White crust forming on the pavers. Efflorescence, common in San Diego’s coastal air from Point Loma to Oceanside, is mineral salts bleeding through. One cleaning pass usually resolves it, but recurring crust points to trapped moisture under the pavers and a drainage problem, not a cosmetics problem.
- The edge course pulls away from the driveway. Edge restraints that have shifted or broken let the entire field migrate outward. You’ll see a widening gap along the border where grass or soil is creeping in.
None of these fix themselves. The earlier we look, the smaller the repair. Most San Diego driveways with one of these symptoms need a partial lift and re-compaction, not a full replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
| Silestone Driveway & Paver Work in San Diego | Typical Installed Range |
|---|---|
| Sectional repair (reset pavers, new base, re-sand joints) | $4,130 – $8,260 |
| Full paver driveway installation | $8,260 – $21,240 |
| Paver patio installation | $4,130 – $12,980 |
| Driveway replacement (any material, including demo and haul-off) | $5,900 – $16,520 |
The range depends on three things: the square footage, whether we’re working over existing concrete or starting from compacted soil, and how much of the base course needs rebuilding. A driveway that’s been settling for five years usually needs more base work than one that failed in the first winter. Every quote includes labor, materials, base prep, joint sand, and cleanup. We hand you a written price before any work starts, and that number doesn’t move unless you change the scope. The workmanship is covered for 365 days from the completion date under our Done Right Promise. If a paver shifts or a joint fails in that first year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Re-sanding joints is something a homeowner can do on a Saturday. Pulling and resetting one paver is possible if you have a pry bar, a rubber mallet, and patience. What goes wrong in DIY work is what’s underneath. If your base course has eroded, re-setting the paver on the same failed base just means it’ll sink again in six months. And if we’re talking about a driveway, not a walkway, a vehicle on an under-compacted patch turns a $500 repair into a cracked paver and a deeper base failure.
Here’s what we’d say: if the issue is joint sand, buy the polymeric sand and do it yourself. If a paver has moved, call us. The equipment for proper base compaction isn’t something most garages keep on hand, and San Diego’s clay soil punishes shortcuts. Call (619) 673-9302 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll give you an honest read over the phone before we ever schedule a visit.
FAQs

Silestone concrete pavers in San Diego typically last 20 to 30 years with proper base installation, though the joint sand needs replenishing every 3 to 5 years. Coastal salt air and intense UV exposure age the surface faster inland Paver installation isn’t just drop-and-go, and the quote you get is the number you pay. Call (619) 673-9302 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
A cracked paver can’t be glued back together, it has to come out and a new one goes in. The good news is that individual pavers are usually under $15, so the real cost is labor to lift and reset the area. If cracks are appearing across multiple pavers, that’s a base or drainage problem. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with.
Most sectional repairs on San Diego driveways are done in one day, including base re-compaction and joint sand. A full driveway replacement takes 3 to 5 days depending on square footage and access. You’ll know the exact schedule before we start, and it’s part of your written quote.
We carry Silestone edge restraints, joint sand, and base course material on our trucks for most San Diego service calls. Specific paver colors and series usually need to be ordered from the supplier, which adds 3 to 7 days. We’ll confirm availability when we give your quote.
