Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Therma-Tru doesn’t manufacture driveway pavers. It makes doors. If you’ve got a Therma-Tru product and a failing driveway, you’re likely dealing with two separate projects on the same property, and we can handle both. For driveway and paver work in San Diego, a full paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, paver grade, and base preparation, and most paver driveways we install are ready to drive on within a week. Homeowners usually find us after the third or fourth paver shifts under a car tire, or when a San Diego winter rain turns a low spot into a puddle that lingers for days.
Here’s the straight answer on parts for a Therma-Tru door: whether you need a replacement weatherstrip, hinges, threshold, or a full door slab, we match the part to the door’s serial number. For the driveway, there’s no “Therma-Tru part” to match, but there are pavers, base rock, edge restraints, and joint sand that matter just as much. Isaac Pruett has seen both sides of this: a homeowner calls about a door, then asks if we also do driveways. We do.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru builds fiberglass and steel entry door systems, and their parts are model-specific. The brand’s lineup includes the Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star, and Pulse series, and each uses different sill systems, weatherstripping profiles, and hinge placements. The quickest way to identify your door is to look for the white label on the hinge edge of the slab. It lists the model name and a serial number that starts with a letter. That serial is what a parts counter uses, and it’s what we ask for when you call.
For driveway pavers, the equivalent step is measuring what you have. Most San Diego paver driveways use either Belgard, Unilock, or Techo-Bloc products, and matching an existing paver means measuring thickness (typically 60mm or 80mm), face dimensions, and color blend. We carry specification-grade pavers from Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc, which means we can usually match an existing driveway without forcing you to replace the entire thing. OEM versus aftermarket matters more on doors than pavers: a genuine Therma-Tru threshold is cut to the exact radius of their sill, while a universal threshold often leaves a gap that lets water in.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pooling at the door threshold. If a Therma-Tru door’s sill cap is cracked or the threshold has separated from the slab, water pools at the entry. In San Diego, this often follows the first real rain after a dry stretch, when the clay soil shifts just enough to break a seal.
- Pavers rocking underfoot. A paver that tips when you step on it means the sand bed underneath has washed out or settled unevenly. Left alone, the edge of that paver becomes a trip hazard.
- Visible cracks running across multiple pavers. Cracks that jump from one paver to the next in a line usually mean the base beneath the driveway is moving, not that the individual pavers failed.
- Daylight under the door sweep or weatherstrip. If you can see outside light from inside your closed door, the weatherstrip has compressed and is no longer doing its job. This lets conditioned air out and San Diego’s dry, dusty wind in.
- Rutting or depressions where car tires sit. A paver driveway that develops sunken stripes where the car parks is telling you the base was never compacted properly, or the soil beneath is expanding and contracting with moisture changes.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Diego, paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240. The range comes down to three things: total square footage, whether we’re reusing or replacing the base rock, and the paver line you choose. A basic Belgard three-piece paver on a fresh compacted base lands at the lower end. A larger driveway with a Techo-Bloc permeable paver system, which handles San Diego’s occasional heavy downpours better on sloped lots, pushes toward the higher end. Concrete driveway installation runs $5,310 to $14,160, and full driveway replacement, including demolition and haul-away, ranges from $5,900 to $16,520.
Every quote we write in San Diego is a written line-item price before work starts. You’ll see the paver cost, base material, labor, and haul-away as separate numbers, and that number won’t change once we start. Our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything on the driveway or the door part we installed isn’t right within a year of completion, we return and fix it at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
For a Therma-Tru door part, there’s a safe middle path. You can check the weatherstrip by running your hand along the bottom of the closed door to feel for gaps. You can check hinge screws with a screwdriver. But replacing a Therma-Tru threshold or sill cap means pulling a door that weighs 80 to 150 pounds off its hinges, and if the replacement part isn’t radiused correctly, the door won’t seal. That’s when a $120 part becomes a $1,000 water-damage repair.
For driveway pavers, one or two rocking pavers can sometimes be reset with sand and edge restraint, but once you’re seeing rutting or crack lines across the driveway, the base underneath is failing. Digging out and re-compacting a base isn’t a weekend job. It’s a few tons of rock, a plate compactor, and a grading plan. Tell me what’s broken. I’ll tell you what it takes. Call (619) 673-9302 and we’ll come look at it.
FAQs

In San Diego, a properly installed paver driveway with a compacted base and good drainage typically lasts 25 to 30 years before the base shows meaningful wear. The pavers themselves often outlast the base, which is why we spend more time compacting the rock beneath than laying the pavers on top. Call (619) 673-9302 if you want us to assess whether your base is still good.
Yes, if the failure is limited to a section. We can remove the affected pavers, re-compact and add base rock, reset the pavers, and re-sand the joints in about one to two days. If the ruts or cracks run across most of the driveway, replacing the whole thing is usually the smarter long-term move. Call (619) 673-9302 for a free assessment with a written quote either way.
Most paver driveway replacements in San Diego take five to seven working days from demolition to final joint sand. That includes removing the old surface, hauling it away, re-grading and compacting the base, laying pavers, cutting edges, and compacting the sand joints. Rain can add a day or two, but San Diego rarely delays us long.
We stock common Therma-Tru weatherstripping profiles, corner seals, and threshold caps on our trucks for same-visit replacement. Less common parts, like a specific Classic-Craft hinge set or a custom-width sill, we order direct from Therma-Tru’s distribution network and usually install within three to five business days. If you call (619) 673-9302 with your door’s serial number, we’ll tell you exactly which category your part falls into before we schedule the visit.
